Help with setting up Hauppauge remote

I'm probably missing something simple here.

I recently bought an HVR-1600 w/ remote, but I can't get the remote to be recognized by Sage. Basically what I've done is this:

1) installed card
2) setup card in Sage (works fine)
3) tried to setup remote, but realized I never previously installed the Hauppauge remote during Sage setup. So..
4) reinstalled Sage w/ Hauppauge setup, but remote still does nothing. Realized there might be Hauppauge remote drivers I need to install...
5) installed Hauppauge remote drivers from WinTV cd
6) reinstalled Sage w/ Hauppauge setup, but remote still does nothing

Any suggestions?

Is the Hauppauge IR.exe application running? It would put an icon in the system tray if it is.

Oh -- what remote do you have? The Hauppauge remote or an MCE kit from Hauppauge w/an MCE remote?

ok, it turns out I just didn't have the plug fully in the card

In my defense, you really have to push it in that last bit to get it in!

Hmm, ok I have another problem. Not all the buttons do anything. For example, the play/pause/ffwd/rwd buttons work, but the directional arrows and the navigation buttons don't. Some of the buttons do weird things, for example the Menu button brings up the windows Alt-Tab menu and the Go button brings up the IR.exe menu

Either the Hauppauge remote still isn't configured correctly (irremote.ini), SageTV doesn't have focus, or ir.exe hasn't been restarted. See this FAQ, which leads to the links in my sig line.
