Basic QAM question

Very basic QAM question from an analog user: how do you pronounce it? Q-A-M? Rhymes with spam?

Are you planning to drop this into normal conversation?

QAM: “kwahm” or "kam", or, like CIA (pronounced as 'see-ai-ei', and not as one word 'seeya'), QAM is more correctly pronounced by each initial.

Personally, I try not to get into an oral (or aural) conversation using the term as I either get the annoyed look or a glassy-eyed response. The conversation usually goes downhill from there.

But if they are actually interested then the Geek level increases exponentially until next thing you know you're doing 88 miles and hour with a flux capacitor strapped to your car in a lightning storm. Or maybe that's just me

Drat. Well, so much for my idea for a cool party topic.

Actually, I was just curious. While reading through forum posts, I've been mentally vocalizing "Clear-QAM" as "clear" "kam." But I didn't know if people would just look blankly at me if I actually said it out loud.

QAM is an acronym for quadrature amplitude modulation, a multiplexing scheme used to combine multiple signals onto one carrier. That'll get em glassy eyed !!

It's certainly an acronym, but I've always heard it pronounced "kwahm”.
