Which media extender to buy?

I am getting ready to buy a media extender and neew to know where to get it. Newegg has them for about &20 cheaper than the sage.tv site. What is different about the MVP that sells on sage.tv and the standard happauge MVP?

Thanks

The license, which you'll need to connect to the server.

I think the sage MVP is just rebranded but it comes with a license. You'll need one unless you have an extra one lying around.

You may want to wait for the HD extender even if you don't have HD.
It's twice as much, but it supports more formats which means your server will not have to transcode the various formats.

Monday 12/10/07 in all likelihood. Price will be $200. Lots of posts if you search on HD Media Extender.

Will these look as good as the SD MVP on an older S-Video TV?

I think it does -- I previously used an Xcard for hardware decoding on one TV and an MVP on another, both connected via svideo. (I have never used video card output for regular TV viewing from a Windows PC.) The output looks great to me & it seems to FF/REW quicker -- the Xcard & MVP both seemed to have a bit of a delay after every jump. The HD extender also supports native playback of more formats and can also handle the new animation system for parts of the UI, among other benefits.
