I never generated a jar for the multi-disk stuff. I only updated the .class file. The latest version of the .class is still located at http://www.mediafire.com/?zmjswbgdtnm. I'm not sure I've tried doing an import with 6.3.8. I'll try tonight if I can find some time.

Hmmmm. My bad. I made a typo and should have said .java. (Not a jar) By the same token though my DVD Profiler imports are working without a hitch. (Haven't done a multi lately.)

I have a .jar and a .class also - not sure where I got mine either...

Gerry,
Are you able to do a IMDB import as well? Those seem to be broken for me also.

Yes. I did an IMDB import for the latest Indy Jones when the DVDPro import I chose had no overview. For that I imported the description only. I later went back to DVDPro and chose a different one for my collection which had the overview and that also imported fine from DVDPro.

I'll also have to go back and figure out exactly what I have. It's either a .jar or a .java file also but now I'm not sure which.

OK. so I definitely have a unique problem here (nothing new for me by the wasy ).

New imports of movie metadata don't work for me any of the following ways:
  • SageMC DVD Profiler Mass Import (Refresh)
  • SageMC DVD Profiler Single Movie Import (Refresh)
  • IMDB Import
On all of the above I can import and see the metadata (In DVD Profiler it shows the metadata on the single movie import and in IMDB it also shows the metadata before I select save) but it doen't "save" the metadata. It does however import the cover image in all cases.

I figured I had screwed something up so this past weekend I total restarted fresh with a new SageTV install, a new SageMC install and got the same result. The only thing that I didn't start new on is the DVD Profiler program. I wonder if there could be something wrong with it's export in some way? I'm using 3.1 of DVDPro.

I'm running DVD Profiler 3.1.1 build 1171 so that isn't your issue. I vaguely remember having an issue like this a while ago. I think I had tracked it down to an older .jar file that shouldn't have been there. Make sure you have no plugins installed at all in your Sage directory. Just Sage and SageMC. (You'll have to blow away the directory to make sure nothing is left.) Install plugins one at a time after you test it.

As a sanity check I removed all my DVD paths from sage. Then re-added them and used refresh all DVD profiler data. Everything came in just fine. Brent, your issue of being able to see the data but not save it seems oddly familiar. I will rack my brain to see if I can remember anything.

The package does include a .java and a .class. The .java is simply the source and doesn't matter. Only the .class is important. If you do have a jar for DVDPro2Sage it may be coming from an old version of the code. You should only have the .class file in the SageTV/DVDPro2Sage folder and no DVDPro2Sage.jar in your JARs folder.

More work on troubleshooting this thing.

To address the suggestions above, I have zero plugins installed - just SageTV and the SageMC STV at the moment. None have been installed since my total reinstall of SageTV last weekend.

I have DVDPro2Sage.class in the SageTV>SageTV>DVDPro2Sage directory no dvdpro2sage.jar (not sure where that file came from even...)

I removed that dvdpro2sage.class file completely from SageTV directories. Rebooted SageTV and restarted the Service. I could then import movies metadata using IMDB (couldn't before this) but of course couldn't import movies using DVDProfiler import.

Next I tried the dvdpro2sage.class file from the 6.3.7 SageMC installation package (put it in that same directory mentioned above) and restarted SageTV and service. After that I couldn't import via DVDProfiler import OR IMDB imports. Same thing using the dvdpro2sage.class file modified for multi-dvd titles.

Strange that removing the dvdpro2sage.class file makes imdb imports work again. Does this information help anyone with suggestions I should try? I'm still desperately seeking advice

PM me a copy of your log. I'll take a look for something suspicious.

First off - thanks to everyone who has tried to help me. I really appreciate everyone's efforts as this has to be one of the more frustrating HTPC experiences I've had. I'm not the most patient person in the world, but when it comes to my HTPC I'm very determined (sometimes misinterpreted by the wife as stubborn and geeky at the same time.)

Now for the real message. I fixed my problem and I'm not totally sure what I did to fix it. I have a theory, but I'm not positive. To investigate I need your help by answering this question:

Please post below your settings (location) for the following in Settings>SageMC>Paths:

Other Programs:
Offline Path:
MetaData XML:
DVD Profiler Path:
IMDB Cache Path:

I think I had my path set correctly, but possibly there is a limitation of where I can put certain things... Need your input here if you use DVDProfiler import in SageMC. Thanks!

Other Programs: c:\temp

MetaData XML: C:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV\SageTV\STVs\SageTV3\SageMCE
DVD Profiler Path: C:\Users\Gerry\Documents\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default
IMDB Cache Path: left empty

Hope that helps. I'm not doing offline DVDs.

Gerry

Brent,

Can you tell us how you fixed this issue? I think I'm having exactly the same problem as you describe... when I go to the "video info" screen, no metadata is shown (although a cover image appears... odd!). If I select "edit video info" then "DVD profiler import" I get a screen with all sorts of info about the DVD (this is offline DVDs by the way). When I select "import" it... doesn't!

For what it's worth, my settings are as follows:
Other Programs: C:\temp
Offline Path: C:\OfflineDVDs
MetaData XML: C:\DVDProfiler\Collection.xml
DVD Profiler Path: C:\Documents and Settings\eric.HOME\My Documents\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default (have also tried the images subfolder)
IMDB Cache Path: (blank)

I originally thought it might be a permissions problem, but I gave "full control" to "everyone" on all the folders listed above and still no luck.

This is SageMC v6.3.8 and Sage v6.4.8 running in service mode on XP pro.

Edit: One more thing I noticed while fooling around with this last night... on a client, when I go into "videos" and select "file system" view, *only* videos I imported from DVDProfiler appear (with green, not yellow icons)! But when I try to play any of them, I get an "unable to render video" error message. Other views (genres, all videos) show everything in my video library.

I noticed yesterday that the method Sage uses for offline movie imports prevents the import of any offline movies that have a :/? or other filename unfriendly symbol in their title. Just a thought for those people that have parts of their collection missing or are testing on a subset of discs.

Actually in my experience it's even worse than that!

It seems like when Sage (or SageMC, not sure where this functionality actually is?) imports offline DVD info, it creates a small .mpg file in the offline DVDs folder for each title. In my case, for each title that contained an illegal character, instead of the .mpg file being created, it created a 0-byte file named as the title of the movie up to the illegal character. So for "2001: a space odyssey", it created a 0-byte file called "2001" with no extension.

In my case, the illegal characters were all colons, so I went into the XML file and removed them with a search/replace. Not a real fun task, and of course it will have to be repeated every time I export from DVDProfiler.

I change the title in DVD Profiler so that "2001: a space odyssey" becomes "2001-a space odyssey". Do it once and you're done. Any new titles I just do that automatically.

I'm having the problem where I can't get the images to show up, but all other info from dvd profiler shows up. My path to dvd profiler is c:\users\jason\documents\dvd profiler\databases\default.

Any ideas why only the images aren't showing up?

I'm using SageMC_6_3_8b_6 with DVD Profiler 3.5. I do have the latest DVDPro2Sage.class file.

Thanks

Are the folders that the movies are in named EXACTLY as the title in DVD Profiler? After updating did you refresh the media again or quit and start SageTV again?

I didn't realize that I needed to restart Sage. After doing that, it is working great.

Thanks
