DVD Playback on HD Extender

I am curious. Will the new HD Extender up-scale DVD's stored on my hard drive? Or will they display at their native resolution on my HDTV?

Depending on the native resolution of your TV (ie how weird/normal it is), yes it will.

What I mean is, when I watch a DVD on my PS3, it scales the image up to 720P or 1080i or whatever output resolution I have set in the PS3. Does the STX-HD100 just display the DVD stored on my server and stretch it to fit my screen while maintaining the aspect ratio, or does it upscale the resolution from standard DVD to 720P or 1080i?

The big question is how well does it do it? Anybody willing to crack it open and see what scaler it uses?

Sage, if you're reading, please tell us so nobody has to do this!

It will do either. What I meant above is that if your display is an odd resolution, the Extender might not be able to output that exact resolution.

But yes, it will scale DVD all the way to 1080p.

Haven't made up my mind yet, I think my IN76 does a better job though.

So long as it does a fair job I'll be pleased, anything that I really want to archive into a single file I re-encode to MP4 with Nero's HD profile myself @ 1280X720. So for casually watching DVD's it just needs to be ok. Anything more is just an added bonus!
