What is the real story about the HD Extender?

Following some threads and just discovered that the HD extender can't decode FLAC and OGG. Instead the server transcode these to High Bit rate MP2. Is there a way to get the real and whole story?

From the list of supported Audio and Vido codec, which ones are supported directly by the Extender and which one requires transcoding?

When trancoded, what is the format received by the extender.

And about the container? Does the Extender understand?!?! the container?

For example, I have an AVI files with 2 AC3 sound strack in it. This is supported by the container. Hitting the Audio button on the remote does not allow me to swicth from one soundtrack to the others. Is this an Extender issue or a transcoding issue?

Please provide more info.

You must have read threads discussing the older extender (mvp). The HD extender can decode ogg and flac directly.

You can find more information in this thread :
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28697

There is currently no way to choose between multiple audio tracks in avi files.

I posted about FLAC and the HD extender. The problem was on my end. The extender decodes FLAC perfectly.
