STX-HD100 IR Receiver: info from SageTV

Here is an official comment from SageTV, in response to the IR receiver problems that many people have reported.

Quote:
We’re very sorry that many of our HD extenders shipped last December do not receive IR remote control signals as well as they should. We’re working on a solution that we expect to be able to send to customers by the end of January. Please keep your proof of purchase and we’ll put a notice out on this forum on how to improve IR remote control reception.

Thanks very much for your support. We’re very sorry about the IR reception performance with the earlier units.

Best New Years wishes.

The SageTV Team
And, before anyone asks: no, I do not have details on the exact fix at this point. That will come later. Right now, SageTV wants people to know that the issue is known and a fix is being researched. When it is available, more details will be posted.

Update:

The new panel is now available. For details, see: STX-HD100 Front Panel Replacement Instructions

And, yes, the 2nd batch of extenders that started selling on Feb 27, 2008, already have the fixed IR panel.

What exactly constitutes the proof of purchase? The "orders@sagetv.com" e-mail to me confirming my order?

What about those that drilled the hole? Since we voided the warranty, are we out of luck?

What does the warranty have to do with Proof of Purchase? Sounds like if you have proof of purchase you'll get the fix.

Proof of purchase would probably be the email sent when you bought the extender, or info from it that shows you made the purchase... but details of how to contact SageTV and so on will be announced later.

What I posted above is all the details I have for now.

I am interested in this as well. I have not drilled a hole yet but it is looking very tempting. As of now I just have the front adhesive panel removed and it works amazingly well. I am hoping they just send a new one of those out.

Then just leave it as-is for now & wait for the fix.

Opus, thanks for keeping us in the loop.
I haven't bought mine as yet (waiting on the next shipment).
Do you have any idea if the 2nd shipment would have this oversight fixed?
If this was answered elsewhere, please feel free to move my post

You could always resell, there are those of us who don't give a crap about hole-drills as they'll be buried in the closet and controlled via TCP-IP through external applications.

Mine's working fine with the hole. I don't care about the appearance (my wife and I hardly notice it), but if they're going to fix it I'll sign up.

It's the end of January now. Does Sage have a fix for the IR problems?

Remote control solution

Wow that's great...more waiting.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk. However, the firmware updates are nice and are certainly needed, but do you know what else would be really great, even better than a firmware update? How about a remote control that works!!!

Where is the official solution? It's been more than a month since release. Why??? Seems like enough time to come up with a solution.

Remember that time when Apple rolled out new laptops with issues (too much goop on the heat sink)? Did they comment on what was going on? Point is, SageTV is not pioneering this process and I assume they want to make sure it is right before they sound the all clear.

PS - If you want an answer from SageTV on this, you might try emailing support AT sagetv DOT com.

This was a fair question. Sage said they expected to have a fix by the end of January. It is the end of January. Even if they do not have the fix nailed down yet, it is time for them to issue a new ETA for the fix.
