how to load Sage from Scratch

When I loaded 6.3.6 somehow my property files got corrupted...I lost my pointers to the sage recordings, I lost my favorites and I lost some EPG data for 2 of my HDHR tuners. I can recreate most of that, but I figure its probably better to start fresh, in case anything else got corrupted.

How do I start fresh? Do I just delete everything in the Sagetv folder and reloaded sagetv?

Thanks,

Gary Ellis

You want your win.biz from that installation. Copy your win.biz and probably any backup of it you find in there. Then uninstall, delete the directory and then do a fresh install. I would also recommend confiure it and get everything working the way you want BEFORE copying back in the wiz.bin you saved. That file contains your favorites, watched history, etc. There's also a FAQ with more details in the forum.

Thats what I'd do, but I'd back up the whole sage folder before hand just incase.

You may have the odd .jar file in there for something or other that you had forgot about.

Then theres the channel logos, USBUIRT .ir files that would be easier to copy than re-create. If you named your mvp's for the webserver you can copy those files back too once you've reinstalled.

I rebuilt mine over the weekend and had problems with frq files and scanning, and had to use the old versions to get it back up and running.

Thanks...it may be my wiz.bin that has the problem...because the favorites are gone and the "watched" are gone.

So, I may really have to start all the way from scratch...I backed up my whole folder before 6.3.5, so I can at least get back to that...

Thanks..

You should also see some autobackups of wiz.bin, I think it is win.bin.6.x.x or whatever version of Sage you are upgrading from is made as a backup. You could use that and get some of your favorites back. And I did forget about the channel logos. (although I have that stashed away somewhere too as a backup.)

You may have already seen this: How to install a new version of SageTV.

BTW: How did you do the upgrade? Did you leave the old version or uninstall it first? (No need to uninstall first.) And, did you make sure that the upgrade was installed to the same location as the old version?

no uninstall...I just installed the new one in the same directory...I've done this many times with past releases and never a problem....this time for some reason....no recordings, no favorites, EPG is gone on HDHR... who knows what I did. : )

I redid my favorites and deleted the HDHR's and added them back..so, all is fine there....and I moved my recordings to an imported video files, so, I can see them... just a hassle....

Anyway...in case I messed it up worse than I can see, then I want to start it fresh...

So, I may backup everything..and start fresh...

Thanks,

Gary Ellis
