Question First Runs n ReRuns

I have set a few favorites to record only firstruns, but it seems that some favorites do it correctly and some shows like Dr phil (my wife watches it)record both. Is there something I have set wrong or does Sage have to run the show once before it considers it a rerun the next time around?

First Run is a marker that the EPG data provider puts on an airing that is considered to be a first run, not the very first airing of that show. First Run status is usually listed on an airing for the first week or so of its first run of airings. When it is repeated weeks later, that is when it is a rerun.

A rerun would be any show that doesn't have a First Run tag.

If you mean that you are getting both the first runs & reruns recorded, then maybe the rerun is getting caught be another Favorite or else IR is enabled & it is recording the unwatched reruns because you watched the first runs.

I have an episode of Law & Order that was recorded Jan 2, 2008 and it is also now set to record tomorrow. I went into the show description of the upcoming recording and it show an original airing date of Jan 2, 2008. My favorite shows first runs only. So why is this getting picked up weeks later to record?

Lotusvbal is having the same thing happen . That is whats happening to me. I record the show Bones and even though tonight was a rerun and it was a rerun under the show info, it still recorded. I dont have intelligent recording on because it just recorded every show on the channels I watch, and i didnt feel like deleting 30 shows every night when I get home.

This FAQ talks about why a show might not get recorded, so you could probably reverse some of those points to check why it is getting recorded. (Was the show not marked as watched? Not already recorded? On a different channel than some other Fav? Does it have a different show ID than the one you watched previously? etc... there are lots of possibilities.)

If the show is marked as a Favorite, select it, then choose Record Options -> Adjust Favorite Options. That should take you to the Favorite that is responsible for recording the show. Is it the Favorite you thought it was? Sometimes multiple favs have been created for a show by accident, each with different settings.

Watching Live TV can end up recording complete shows after the one you are watching, if you take long enough watching the one that was on before it.

And, as I mentioned above, SageTV doesn't determine which shows are First Runs; that is part of the EPG data. I don't know why they are still marking an episode as First Run a couple weeks later. Maybe they want to get lots of air time out of it since new shows are pretty much on hold due to the writers strike. Or, maybe it is a data glitch. Who knows.

Because it's marked as a first run in the EPG info. That particular episode aired as half of a two-hour series premiere on Jan 2. Now it's airing again as a regular one-hour episode. Apparently that's different enough for Zap2It (the EPG provider) to assign it a new episode ID and mark it as a first run. Given that situation, Sage is correctly scheduling it to be recorded, since it has no way of knowing the actual program content is the same as what you saw two weeks ago.

Funny -- I almost listed that as a possibility (after mentioning the show ID), but figured I had to stop somewhere. I've had the same thing happen for The Closer and other shows that had 2 hour specials which were broken apart later on.

Thank you. This is easy enough to just delete the show when this happens since it shouldn't happen to often. SAGE ROCKS
