Yet another newbie question.

I've got SageTv setup and recording OTA HD on my server. The output files have .mpg extensions. Now my total lack of understanding of encoding starts to show. Can these be streamed to the SageTV Wireless Media Extenders? I guess my biggest issue is the SageTV Wireless Media Extender states it can play MPEG1/2/4, AVI, DivX, XVID, VOB, WMV file formats. I do not see .mpg's in this list. Are mpg's MPEGS?

Yes; most tuner cards record in MPEG2 format, which by default are saved with an extension of .mpg

Thanks Stu. So the SageTV Wireless Media Extender can stream the OTA HD recorded in MPEG2 format? So far my HD files seem to be averaging about 5-7 GB per hour.

The issue at that point becomes one of network latency rather than capability; I don't do HD, but I'm pretty sure that the MVP can play it back without transcoding. What puts a monkey in the works is the size of the files streaming over wireless-G; I just don't think that 802.11g is capable of playing back files of that size reliably.

Others with experience in these matter may have more information.
