ReplayTV to SageTV

I'm in the process of changing over from ReplayTV to SageTV.

So here is the setup:

2 replayTV 5040's and a DVArchive server. Several gigabytes of shows.

1 SageTV server and 2 working media extenders

My problems is that the media extenders are not able to play the videos that were recorded on the replaytv's. I can play the videos on the sagetv server and on sagetv client.

do I need to convert the replayTV videos? They should be standard MPEG2 videos. I've never had any problems playing the videos with any applications. I've also burned the videos straight to DVD without transcoding.

Can anyone offer any help?

I'd expect that to work.

You might try running a show through Womble's PTS and GOP fixer tool.
That usually makes the shows more DVD compatible. I know RTV shows are generally compatible but some authoring packages gave me warnings on raw RTV mpegs. The fixer tool usually cleaned it up.

Are the files compatible with Sage? I tried to play an anamorphic RTV recording via Sage and I was able to view the video but I got no audio. I tried converting them using RTVTools or something(I can't exactly remember) but it didn't have the effect of restoring the audio.

I am also a former replay user. My HD100 plays back replay videos fine. What quality were they recorded in?

I found my problem, the AC3 Filter won't render the audio. However, any other filter makes all other shows sound weird so I'm not sure if I want to use anything else.

Does anyone else have the problem where audio filters like Cyberlink and Intervideo make audio sound odd?

All the videos are recorded in medium quality. This was done so that I could easily burn the videos files directly to DVD without having to convert them. Which has worked fine. That's why I'm wondering why I'm having a problem.

I did get a partial solution. I used VideoRedo to batch fix the videos. The converted versions work on the media extenders but not on the ReplayTV so I can't have a mixed environment. Which is fine because the plan is to convert the whole house to SageTV. But it would be nice to have those files available during the transition. Plus converting 1TB of videos takes a while.

Also, I'm giving my replayTVs to other family members and it would be nice to swap recorded shows with them. But hey, whatever....

Yeah, ReplayTV audio is MPEG not AC3. There are a small number of standalone DVD players that have a problem with this but the vast majority can handle mpeg audio.
