Some real Bad Mojo going on after firmware update

20080125-2 Firmware Problem - HARD FREEZE UPS

So I upgraded the firmware on my HD Extender yesterday in the AM, and the HD extender have been locking up on me every since. I have to hard reboot the HD Extender to unfreeze.

If I try to remove a favorite in the conflict resolution options screen, I get a hard freeze up 100% of the time. And most of the time if I try to do anything in the conflict resolution options screen I get lock-ups. Twice last night I got lock-ups just doing miscellanies stuff. It will just set there with the red front light on and refuse to respond to the power on command and just sit there. I have to power reboot to restore service.

Is there a way to go back to the older firmware? I'm in a bad bad bad
way? Right now I'm doing conflict resolution via the Server

Every thing was working great until I updated the server and HD extender yesterday..........That should tech me

Server:........ New RC software
HD Extender:...... Latest firmware

i second this problem.

In my case I tried to use it this morning and it would not respond until I power cycled on the back. I have not updated the server to 6.3.7 though.

I agree something is goofy with the new 20080125-2 firmware, but I'm having entirely different problems with it. Basically imported mpeg4/divx/xvid videos won't play. I started experiencing the problem after updating the firmware. Then I tried moving to the RC to fix the problems, and I tried updating Java to 1.6.0_03. I'm hoping there's a way to drop back to the previous firmware version. If everything works with the old firmware, then it must be an issue with the new firmware.

Same here. I filed a bug with Sage - I suggest everyone do the same! I've had to powercycle (hard) both my extenders multiple times since I upgraded to the latest firmware.

What's interesting in my case is that it almost always locks up when it's "off" - in standby. But once it did lock up during a show.

btl.

No lock-ups or need to power cycle on my end. I'll try adjusting a favorite to see if I can force a lock-up.

Hold on, I actually am having a problem. Sometimes when I power down via remote, I can't power back on without a power cycle. So I guess I am effected after all.

I haven't had any lockup issues either. I did have issues playing mkv files, or much of any file, until I upgraded the server to the latest beta release though. The only difference I can see is that I got the new firmware very early, just minutes after Andy posted the announcement. My version is 20080125-1. I'm thinking they introduced a bug with whatever they did in the -2 version.

There's new firmware out now, but the release notes are pretty vague. I'm at work now, as I'm sure most people are, so I can't try it out. I'm curious if people are having better luck with it.

Flashing now. Will report back

Edit for update: Same problem. Three attempts three lock ups

When I try to remove a favorite in the conflict resolution options screen, once I get too "Are you sure you want to remove the favorite xxxxx?" I get a hard freeze up 100% of the time.

Not a showstopper...........but

Yeah, the new firmware didn't help me. I still can't play imported videos. For some reason mpeg2s and DVDs seem to work fine though. Its weird.

This is most likely a server side problem or a networking problem. Verify that port 7818 is opened properly.

Thanks for the tip. I don't have a firewall running, except for on my router, (that is, no windows firewall, no third party sw firewall) so I'm pretty sure port 7818 is open. Plus, I can *sometimes* stream files (including mpeg4s, and H.264), but its pretty rare. Plus, my PC client connects to the Sage server and streams files, which seems to happen over port 7818. This problem didn't happen until I loaded the 20080125-2 firmware. Right before I flashed the firmware I watched an imported video. Right after I flashed the firmware that same imported video no longer played. I didn't change anything on the server.

I submitted a bug report. Hopefully they'll see something in the log file. I posted part of a log file in the '20080125-2 Firmware Problem' thread. I probably shouldn't hijack this thread with that problem. But, I am curious if there's a way to flash back to the 20071226 firmware.

Have you tried to remove the properties file belonging to the stx in the clients folder on the sage server.

I remember a while back I had removed it and it created a new <mac address>.properties and sometime didn't get setup right and my stx showed the same issues. I could not play any mpeg4 from my import directory and or had various issues.

should look something like this ( a working copy)

Code:
#Sage Preferences
#Mon Jan 28 20:45:24 EST 2008
STV=C\:\\Program Files\\SageTV\\SageTV\\STVs\\SageTV3\\SageTV3.xml
advanced_aspect_ratio_extra_modes=
extender_resolution_extra_modes=
malore/sagetv_recordings_filter_archived=false
media_player_plugin_class/mkv=
media_player_plugin_class/mov=
miniclient/push_dump_debug_file=
miniclient/transcode_mode=DVD
miniclient/transcode_mode_6ch=DVD6Ch
miniplayer/last_volume=0.50000006
native_output_resolution_switching=false
osd_rendering_height_ntsc=540
osd_rendering_width=960
quick_filter_enabled=true
rc5_disable=false
theme/currently_active=Standard HD1080
ui/accelerated_rendering=false
ui/animation/background_surface_name=BG
ui/animation/preferred_scrolling_surface=Foreground
ui/online_services_font_face=Arial
ui/online_services_font_size=18
ui/online_services_font_style=Bold
ui/scaling_insets_base_height=1080
ui/scaling_insets_base_width=1920
ui/ui_overscan_correction_offset_x=23
ui/ui_overscan_correction_offset_y=10
ui/ui_overscan_correction_perct_height=0.9540006
ui/ui_overscan_correction_perct_width=0.96399903
video_lib/last_browser_style=xFolder
videoframe/always_call_fileplaybackfinished=false
videoframe/display_aspect_ratio_is_set=true
videoframe/last_station_id=44794
videoframe/rew_time2=-150000
zzz=true
again these might not work for you because of res. and over scan but it did sound very similar to what happened to me. if you remove both files related to the mac address and then turn it on, it should create a new file and when you start to play different types of files. you should see more entries.

Thanks for the tip. It didn't seem to have much of an effect. I did notice a couple files are playing consistently now (an H.264 file and an mpeg4), but most of my files still don't play (that is, other H.264 and mpeg4 files). I'm not sure if that's much of a change. I think the H.264 file was usually playing (but not always), and I don't think I tried that particular mpeg4 file until now.

To be honest, I don't really know what the extender properties file is suppose to look like. After trying to play a variety of my imported videos, this is what the properties file looks like:

okay, after showing this last night I changed something and I"m filing a bug report.

that file I posted was missing something.

Code:
media_player_plugin_class/mpg=
media_player_plugin_class/avi=
media_player_plugin_class/dvd=
media_player_plugin_class/mkv=
media_player_plugin_class/mov=
media_player_plugin_class/mp4=
media_player_plugin_class/ts=
media_player_plugin_class/wmv=

this was in my original file and if anything is missing like mpg like the code posted a few above, This caused my stx to be transcode all mpg and yes it looked like poop on my sony. So every time I tried to watch my news in HD, the server would be transcoding mpeg2 until I added that mpg line.

So I guess try to manual add that line above to see if your problems stop.

thats becuase there must be a bug in creating or adding the propertie file, the server doesnt want to add the correct lines for each type of file.

media_player_plugin_class/avi=
media_player_plugin_class/mp4=

this is all you have and if you add thoses lines I showed above, it should work for you now.

So, I tried adding those lines. I'm not sure if it helped. My H.264 files seem to work, but they've kind of been working on and off. They seem to work more often, but it might be a coincidence.

One mpeg4 avi file does play. When I look at that file's details, Sage says its an MSMPEG4 file, whereas all my other mpeg4 files (which don't play) just say MPEG4. That seems significant.

So, can someone clarify this please.

Which of these entries

media_player_plugin_class/mpg=
media_player_plugin_class/avi=
media_player_plugin_class/dvd=
media_player_plugin_class/mkv=
media_player_plugin_class/mov=
media_player_plugin_class/mp4=
media_player_plugin_class/ts=
media_player_plugin_class/wmv=

if any should be in a macaddress.properties file that belongs to an HD extender? What about a mediamvp extender? what about a placeshifter client?? and what do they do? do they turn off transcoding for those file types?

also, if I want to play m2ts files do I need to add a line for that? something like

media_player_plugin_class/m2ts=

and would I only add that line to the hd extender (which should be able to play those files, correct?)

I've reviewed all of my macaddress.properties and only one of them has any such lines and it only has this one

media_player_plugin_class/avi=

So, clarification truely appreciated.

thanks

Smile Bad Mojo is now exorcised

After my bug report, tech support sent me a file that hooked me right up. I was told it will be in the next official build.

Thanks SageTV, LLC

For m2ts you need to demux it and convert the audio, you should head over to doom9 forums to see what works with blueray

But it plays all my HD dvds after I convert the audio

What was the new file that support gave you ? even thought I was able to reproduce this issue over and over, support told me that nothing was wrong.
