HD100 problems

After searching and reading a lot of threads here, I'm either blind, or not finding a solution already posted for my issues with my HD extender. Here's the setup:

Sage 6.3.5 running on MAC
HD100 connected via HDMI to Denon 3808 and then out to Sony TV via HDMI
Latest HD100 firmware
monoprice 1.3a cables all around

I can make the HDMI port work, but I only could get 2 channel audio, even with 5.1 source material. I have my Denon set to control the audio, not the TV. Dont know if there is another setting somewhere else I need to change, I couldnt find anything.

So I reverted back to a toslink and get 5.1 sound now, but this isnt what I want, I want 5.1 audio over HDMI. HOW?

Also, I cannot make 1080p over HDMI work. As soon as I select that output resolution my TV loses signal. Every other resolution is fine (480 i/p, 720p, 1080i). The TV is more than capable of 1080p, as is the Denon. Why am I unable to view the HD100 at 1080P?

I fought with this thing all day trying to restore the default STV (tried to use SageMC and it just wont work on my setup, ugh) and finally have viewable menus and working TV again, but I really would like to be about to run 1080P+5.1+HDMI-only. Is this not a winning combination?

Well I guess nobody has ever seen these issues? I submitted a support ticket, maybe Sage themselves will be able to assist me.

Good luck.. and post back here if you 'discover' anything!

They seem very close to fixing the audio problems it but it doesn't seem quite there yet.

Yeah I just did the new firmware, and no change for my audio issues, I still get 5.1 over optical, but only 2.0 over HDMI.

And the firmware didnt do a darn thing for my unit not outputting 1080p.

I can't get 1080p either with HDMI from the Extender.. works great with the component cables though! 1080i works over HDMI.. but when I try 1080p the tv loses signal or I get an 'out of range' display from the TV.. this was not the case with the original firmware that came with the unit...

I am sure they'll work it out.. eventually!

I just purchased a 3808ci and I too cannot get 1080p to pass from the HD100 to the AVR to the TV. I can get 1080p from the HD100 to the TV. I can get 1080i from a DVD player to pass just fine. I have not yet tried 1080i from the HD100 yet but will tonight. Any thoughts?

I don't have another 1080p HDMI source to test the 3808...but maybe i can borrow a dvi to hdmi cable an lug (yuck) my PC into familyroom.

As soon as i get some kind of video out to the TV, I look to see if I can get the 3808 to decode (see) 5.1 audio.

I was told they are working on it. I dont know if they can fix it or not though. I have 3 other HDMI devices (HD DVD, Bluray, and Tivo) and both the HD DVD and Bluray run at 1080P just fine through the Denon. Doesnt matter if its 1080P24 or 60.

I really hope they can fix this issue so that I can pass 1080P through the Denon.

Does anyone know if the HD100 is sending RGB over HDMI or is it using YCbCr?

Edit:
When I got home, i changed my HD100 to 1080i. Now the 3808 is passing the video/sound over HDMI. I then looked at the source info from the Denon and it show the input is RGB 4:4:4. I think the 3808 is having a problem passing 1080p RGB as at least one person on AVSForum is having problems with DVI-to-HDMI (which is RGB) @ 1080p.

I'm filing a support request with Sage on YCbCr support over HDMI. I will do the same with Denon on 1080p RGB support.

I didnt even think to check the YPrPb vs. RGB settings. Did you try changing either setting on the Denon, or trying RGB Enhanced color space on the Denon? I am going to mess with this tonight, and see if I can get 1080P working either by changing settings TV or on the Denon (both have various RGB and YPrPb settings).

I haven't had the 3808ci very long, but i think you can only set the color space and RGB range for the HMDI output. I have tried YCbCr, RGB Normal, & RGB Enhanced. None of the three worked for 1080p from the HD100.

I informed Sage Support that I could not get 1080p RGB 4:4:4 from the HD100 working with my AVR. I then asked if the HD100 could output the YCbCR Color Space over HDMI. Their response was:

"Make sure you are using the current version 6.3.5 of Sage and the firmware is updated on the extender. It should work. Unfortunatly I don't have any suggestion on AVR's."

(oh, i also ask if they know of any AVR with which 1080p works.)

I don't know that it is specific to a Denon rec. I have a Sony rec and have the exact same issue. 1080p just locks up when going through the rec but 1080i and 720p work perfectly.

As sad as it is to say, at least thats some good news that its not related to just Denon. I think I am just going to give up, and run HDMI direct to my TV, and optical to the Denon for sound. I havent heard from support since George's last email to me on 1-31-08 stating that a developer was looking into the 1080p issue.

For 5.1 sound from HDMI you have to set the extender to output spidf for some perverted reason. Both HDMI AND spidf audio will work at the same time. If you select HDMI for audio it passes 2 channel PCM. I got sparkles on my HDMI through my Onkyo 875 so I just set the output to native and 1080i as the max for now. The 875 has a HQV reon scaler in it anyways so it does a much better job at scaling / deinterlacing.
