A curious question about memory usage

I have SageTV minimized on my server and 2 HD extenders connected.

I notice via Task Manager that SageTV, even while minimized and no extender in use, is using between 200K and 280K of memory. But, what is curious, if I unminimize SageTV and then minimize it again, the memory usage immediately drops to about 15K. Then when I check and hour or so later, its back up in the 200K or higher range...

Unminimizing and then re minimizing Sage always takes the memory down to around 15K...

Just curious as to why this happens and is this a problem causing slowness or anything?

Thanks,

Gary Ellis

I doubt it will cause you any problems when the memory drops like that it usually means that the Java garbage collector has run and disposed of unused objects. It run periodically and your un/re minimizing must trigger it to happen also. That would be my GUESS anyway.

That happens with any app. Windows flushes the app's memory footprint to the paging file every time you minimize.
