HD Extender Bricked
I tried to update to the newest firmware. It hung at 0% and never finished. I rebooted the extender and it was hung. I read the F.A.Q that had the unbrick procedure. I downloaded the file and followed the directions. It does not seem to work. I get an error in the log file
Sun 2/10 15:11:52.020 Server got broadcast packet: java.net.DatagramPacket@365dc0 Sun 2/10 15:11:52.181 Server sent back mini discovery data:java.net.DatagramPacket@365dc0 to /0.0.0.0 1025 Sun 2/10 15:11:52.182 Error w/SageTV client connection:java.net.BindException: Cannot assign requested address: Datagram send failed It seems like the extender is not getting an IP address. This has never been a problem before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

This sounds like a bug in V6.3.8. Stop the SageTV Service and the SageTV UI that's running on the server. Then start the service again and it should work fine. You can start the UI on the server after that. (The client is stealing a socket that the server needs to create; this is already fixed for 6.3.9)

I rebooted the server, and started the service fresh, but I still get the same error. Any other ideas.

What DHCP server are you using? I have a DLink DGL-4100 which won't work. I usually run dnsmasq just to do the unbrick.

THANK YOU!!! That was the problem exactly. I used tftpd32 with all of the tftp options so it was only a dhcp server. As soon as I did that it picked up an address an updated immediately. By the way my dhcp is from a Motorola router SBG900. |

You should only have a problem if you have a firmware update that fails.
