Cable Box Problems

I recently bought a Pioneer Cable Box from Nevada. I am currently living in New York. This box is compatable with Time Warner cable, however, the serial number does not match so My New York cable company can not give me a boost to allow it to work with my system. Can anyone help me get this box to work with my Time Warner Cable.
