Eliminate the side bars?

Ok, so I'm now running DirecTV H21's. As mentioned in another thread, I'm doing this to (a) get better SD capture and (b) prepare for the release of the HD-PVR. In the meantime, on my SD channels I get the gray side bars. If I set the STB to 4:3 they go away, but then my HD channels are jacked. None of the TV aspect adjustments help, either. Any suggestions on this? I guess it'd be nice if I could set the STB to be 4:3 on SD channels and 16:9 for HD channels.

Am I going to have to crap in one hand and and wish in the other one to see which one fills up first?
