R5000 H.264 does not play in placeshifter

As the subject says, r5000 generated H.264 files do not play via placeshifter. 1st attempt screen goes black for a sec, timeline does not change, and then instantly goes back to menu. 2nd attempt will sometimes yield strictly black screen. Files play fine via regular client

I am currently running version 6.3.5.159 of server and placeshifter

Any thoughts?

You're not alone. Without transcoding, the r5000 streams can only be decoded by a very few systems. Nearly impossible on a Mac, possible on a PC only with certain decoders (Cyberlink, CoreAVC etc). AFAIK mplayer is currently under development to play h.264 streams with paff interlacing. I think that will be the ultimate solution for the placeshifter.

what kind of system are you guys talking about? IE, processor speed, ram etc.

I just ordered an R5000. I am expecting to play HD content on my new (waiting for it to be shipped) HD extender so that should be fine.

I am going to be using placeshifter on my laptops but only one of them will have enough horsepower to playback HD. I am wondering if you are saying that even if the computer is beefy enough, that placeshifter somehow messes things up.

Thanks for any insight.

BTW, how do you like your R5000? Does Sage change channels via the USB connection? I just read a blurb on their site that said it may change channels slower than people are used to. Do you find that an issue?

R5000 rocks.

Channel changes are slower. I got used to it after a few weeks
From what I understand, the HD Extender plays the files with no problems.
Issue is only with the placeshifter, as it may be a transcoding issue on the server. I only say this, as the system I am using the placshifter on, can play the files outside of placeshifter with no problem. The server can play the files OK. So, that really only leaves the transcoding. Of course, I could be way off base here, as I have not put a lot of time into it. I did open a support ticket and am waiting to hear back. Have not heard anything in a few days

I use my R5000 with HD Extender works great. However the placeshifter does not work with h.264, Ive been planning on getting a slingbox when more HD Extenders are available and put the two together for "placeshifting".
