Weird HD Extender Behavior

Just finished hooking up my new HD extender. I'm using HDMI going to my TV. When I view any of the HD recordings, it will play fine and after a few seconds the audio will drop and the file would play like it is in fast forward (FF). Has there been any issues like this? My DVD folders seem to play just fine.

thanks!

Make sure you are on the latest firmware. I don't have the HD extender yet, but that's the first thing I'd check.

I *had* the same problem.

My Properties file *was* set to this:

mmc/encode_digital_tv_as_program_stream=false
...
mmc/encoders/-2026152731/100/0/encode_digital_tv_as_program_stream=true
...
mmc/encoders/-2026152732/100/0/encode_digital_tv_as_program_stream=true

I've set that first one to "true" and the problem is gone.

Did this but the "false" value keeps reverting back after restart. Will upgrading to the 6.3.8beta solve this?

You have to completely exit SageTV and/or stop the service before editing sage.properties.

I shut down all my clients and the Sage service. I got the setting to stick on the sage.properties but the HD recordings would still play in FF after about 5 seconds. I will install the new Sage release, hope that works!

Ok i just installed the new 6.3.10 release. Solved my FF problem and the aspect ratio not sticking to Fill. Now the HD recordings seems to jump all over the place when using the FF and RR buttons.

Define "jumps all over the place." Do you mean when you hit FF it jumps forward seemingly randomly?
If so, I'm going to risk sounding like a jerk and mention that there are 3 different "FF" and "REW" buttons. One is the "traditional" FF. Another jumps ahead 10 seconds (by default - can be changed) and another jumps ahead a couple of minutes iirc (by default).

Hope this helps,

Mitch

Hi Mitch, if you hit the ANY of the FF (Skip FW, Skip FW2)the recording jumps to almost the end of recording. Then it classifies the recording as Watched. This only happens on HD files, SD seems fine. The HD recordings are captured as .mpg by my tuners.

That is strange. My HD stuff is stored as mpg as well and all FF types work fine.
(My HD tuner is the HDHR.)

Can't seem to find a fix for this. It looks like the markers when you FF or RW just ends up in the end of the recording.

Thanks, I opened a support ticket. Funny this happens on 2 HD Extenders. Playing HD recording on the server is just fine.

Guess what? This happened to me with my recording of Dexter. It takes two leaps through and reaches the end of the recording. Other recordings from tonight play fine.
Here's a theory, though, I clicked over the Dexter just before it finished recording. I wonder if doing this interfered with the proper closing of the video file.

Hi Mitch, does it play fine if you use playback through the server? I just found out this only happens with my old HD recording pre-6.3.10. New HD recordings RW and FF just fine.

I don't think so. I don't have a good way to play back on the server since it's headless and VNC doesn't give a real good indication as to what's happening video wise. That said, I did try and although I couldn't really see the video, I have a feeling it's messed up when playing on the server as well since the time information doesn't appear to be changing as one would expect.

Did you get any feedback from Sage, yet?

Mitch

I have the exact same problem with one of my recordings. The rest work fine. My guess is there is something wacked in the stations encoding.

I get this occasionally too. Used to happen with my HDHR recording all the time, but not so much anymore. If you have the HDHR make sure you update your drivers. I've recently started firewire capture from my moto stb and I get it with those files sometimes. Though not an ideal solution, i've found if I run the offending recording through mpeg2repair it seems to fix that recording.

Good luck.

Matt
