Upgraded but lost settings and favorites

I finally decided to upgrade my SageTV from version 4 to version 6.3.

So I downloaded the software tonight and blindly charged ahead. After the upgrade was done and I went through the setup wizard I noticed my favorites list was gone. The viewed show history is also gone.

I see now that I should have backed up the wiz.bin, wiz.bak, etc., files before doing the upgrade. I haven't seen a setting to do this within the software, and believe that was supposed to happen automatically.

Not backing up those files may have been a fatal flaw, but I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion of anything I could try at this point before manually rebuilding the favorites list.

How did you do the installation?

If you installed over the top of the old version, it should have used the old wiz.bin and properties files. Automatic backups of these files will be created when a new version is installed -- just look for "wiz.bin.SageTV v<old version #>" and similar ones for your properties files.

If you uninstalled the old version first (not needed & not recommended; the installer will take care of that), then you may have installed the new version in a different location from where the old one was installed -- the new one may be at \Program Files\SageTV, while the old one may be at \Program Files\Frey Technologies. In this case, your old database & settings are sitting unused in the old location and I suggest that you make a backup copy of those old files now, uninstall the new version, then re-install the new version to the old location & all the old settings should be used after that.

I did install over the top of the old version (no uninstall first I mean). Though it may not have been in the same folder. When I installed 6.3 is was to the default \Program Files\SageTV.

I forgot about the Frey Technologies folder. There were was a wiz.bin folder there, etc. So I made a copy of that folder elsewhere, uninstalled 6.3, and reinstalled it to that \Program Files\Frey Technologies folder, as you mentioned, but I had the same results -- no favorites or history.

It's too late to work on this anymore tonight so I'll check tomorrow is there's any other places the original had been installed, but I doubt it.

Leave your new installation in the default \Program Files\SageTV. Delete your wiz.autobackup that is in there. Copy in your wiz.bin from your original Program Files\Frey Technologies folder into your new installation. You should have your favorites and recorded shows list back.
