Garbled Text and Menus

(edit moved from Sage MC thread)

I've been having a lot more instances of garbled characters and text on my MC menu's. Pretty sure most of my stuff is up to date with fairly recent versions. On start up things are fine. After watching tv for a while, and returning to menus, they're illegible. Large white illegible text. Exit sage, restart....repeat.

Starting to drive me crazy. Any ideas on how to fix?

Update: Just uninstalled some older java (directories where still there), reinstalled sage MC base, and latest build. Probably worse now.

On certain videos (seems to be CBS OTA from HDHR) the video stalls or stops intermittantly for 5-30 seconds, and the computer seems to lock up. When returning back to the menus, it's a black background now, with all the garbled text and images.

Interesting way I found to temp fix: If I do a control/alt/del to bring up task manager, then the MC menu's instantly return to normal.

Will try using standard stv for a while, but pretty sure it's mc.

edit:

Troubleshooting: I have service running on this machine. I deleted my sage_client.properites file, thinking there might be a problem there. As soon as I restarted the service a log file is generated in sage directory:

Are you using the default STV and still have the problem or not?

Only thing I can recommend is to delete ALL instances of JAVA on your computer and re-install the LATEST version of JAVA. Just go to java.com and let it do the work for you.

I had a similar situation, and it was due to older JAVA versions conflicting with SageMC.

Here's my troubleshooting thread for the problem, with some photos of my TV (to see if it's similar to your problem):

Agreed on the java version but I think this may be compounded by the default > MC > default swapping too.

Thanks guys. I'll try an uninstall of java. Just trying to avoid a full delete and reinstall of sage. My properties file is so old! It's been through three years of updates, and I'd hate to have to redo my ir codes, channel lineups and happague settings.

This is just the client running on the server. My mvp works fine. Actually the WARNINGS above were generated even before the client was started. The WARNINGS were written as the service was started.

Will advise...

Andrew

Andy,

Haven't tried that yet. Was going to, and then I noticed all the warnings generated in the log file even before i started the client.

Hey,

Noticed that my problems seem to have stopped after switching the video decoder away from purevideo. Using the sagetv decoder, I don't get the stutters on certain hdhomerun recordings, resultant lockups, and the garbled text.

Confused about the version/upgrade procedures at nvidia's site. Can I download the purevideo again (get the latest version) and then use my key?

My viewing isn't that specific that I can tell much of a diference to be honest.

Thanks
