I agree it should be optional like it is with Beyond Media, MCE and VMC's DVD Library plugins.

So you'd rather have everything that starts with "The" be sorted in the T's?

If you want this to work in genre/group views this would require a change to STV. As I mentioned previously, you can have arbitrary sorting in filesystem view.

Yes. That's why I go to the trouble of adding 'The' in profiler.
