Audio stops after skipping in TV recordings on HD100

Anybody else seeing this on the HD100....?

While playing back TV (live or recorded) and skipping forward or back (or skipping commercials with the right-button), sometimes the audio will stop completely and not come back until I pause and play again. It seems to happen roughly 1/4 to 1/3 of the time, and is dragging down the WAF.

All the recordings are from my R5000HD, and it seems to happen on both HD and SD, though I've mostly been looking at SD. Happens on both HD100s, and has happened on two different PCs with Sage server installed.

Thoughts?

Cheers,
Slipshod

What I have seen is sometimes after a skip forward the HD100 will just lose the audio for a few seconds. Wait a few seconds and it start again. This is on analog SD recordings and HDHR HD recordings.

Yes... yes, I have.

I have just become accustomed to doing the "pause, play" thing to fix it. I told the wife to do the same thing... thankfully it does not seem to have affected the "overall" WAF.

I figure someday down the road a firmware update will fix it. If not, I suppose I can live with it.

P.S. Gerry - I've seen your issue too, separately.

Me too

I have also seen both issues with my HD100: (1) losing audio after a skip, until pause then play, and (2) losing audio after a skip, and then it comes back on its own after ~3 seconds.

I never reported it as a bug, because it's kind of erratic and hard to reproduce. I thought maybe it was my audio receiver, it's an old piece of junk.

Nope - I just have my audio through the TV, and have seen it through both analog (composite RCA) audio and HDMI audio connections.

I hadn't seen anybody else mention it, so I thought it might just be my setup. Glad to know I'm not alone.

I guess I'll add it to the list of bugs I need to open with support.

I was about to post asking the same thing. Well sort of the same thing.

I also have an R5000HD doing the recording. All SD shows have been working great, but on HD, it is a different story.

What I find is when it hits a commercial block, it skips ahead an some times it will take 5 - 10 seconds for the video to catch up. The audio starts playing right away while the video trys to catch up. Then the audio is where it should be but the video is 5 - 10 seconds behind.

What I do to fix is is do my skip back function which is set to 10 seconds. This fixes it right up. I hate that I have to do that.

I think it is something to do with the R5000 recordings.

I saw this issue quite a bit using the HDHR for recording. I then found that my NIC was discarding received packets. I moved the HDHRs to a new NIC and have not seen any more of that problem.

The R5000 isn't network based. It is a USB device directly on the sage server.

There is a flag within the R5000 UI to have it drop padding that the satellite provider puts in the signal. I have this enabled because it creates much smaller files, but I suspect this is the cause of the issues.

I haven't tried turning it off, recording a show and seeing if it fixes it.

I actually see it in mp4 movies created by Nero. I have already 3 movies when after couple of minutes the video continues but the audio stops. I have to stop and start the movie again. It is always at the same spot, in one of the movies it actually happens at several places.

Odd. I can't say I've ever seen that on my setup. What do you have the R5000 in? Does it happen on all HD content, or just some? I get some weird behaviors in my HD locals, but all of the Nation HD channels work great.

Not exactly the same as the OP, but I've found that while watching "Dancing with the Stars" (wife's fault, I swear!), I get no audio if watching live. Audio is fine if paused and at least a few seconds behind live; completed recordings are fine as well. FYI, this is from OTA HD network broadcasts.

I have the R5000 in a StarChoice box.

It happens with every HD recording.

I've had each of the above mentioned audio issues, plus one more that I haven't seen posted.

Sometimes when starting playback of a recording, or even tuning a live tv channel, all of the audio will be sent through my front right speaker. Pausing/playing does not help, but stopping, tuning another channel or playing another recording, then going back to the original channel or recording seems to fix it most of the time.

I'm using optical out from the extender, directly in to my AV receiver. I assume it is a problem with the extender as opposed to my receiver as I have not seen this behaviour from any other sources. I haven't reported it before now as it is a relatively minor nuisance and I wouldn't have the first idea how to duplicate it, it seems very random. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've seen this since version 5. I don't use any additional hardware. Just a stock configuration of Sage with SD television. No service. Nada.

I reported it as a bug in version 6. Sage's response was that they had never heard of the issue before and that I should try a different audio decoder.

I did try another, the behaviour never went away so I just learned to live with it.

Thumbs down

ok, this seems to be an SD-only issue for me. skipping is not affected; FF/Rew kills the audio until I stop/restart the show again. nothing else seems to get it back. using optical out to a surround system.

To the people with no audio in an SD recording try using the remote to raise the volume all the way to 100%. If your issue was the same as mine the volume is at 0%. There is a bug that occurs when you FF REW etc when the volume is set to zero.

I'll check that next time, though I use optical to the surround. HDMI passes it to the TV, but I haven't turned those speakers up to compare.

Edit: yep, HDMI audio still works to the TV. Optical seems to be the problem. I sent in a support email, but they typically only respond during weekdays. Maybe I can get the wife used to using FF2/FF3 on SD instead of FF/REW. Inconvenient to say the least.

Hmmm. That means I just need one more HDMI cable and I can fix the problem in the family room! Awesome, thanks for the tip!

Cheers,
