I've been experiencing the same issues with Sage locking up when I FF or RW while a show is recording. (last night I had to hard boot it 3 times in 3 hours). The problem only started once I upgraded to 6.3.10, prior to that everything seemed to work fine. I even did a fresh install on new hardware, only copying over wiz and properties.ini. That worked for about a day and then the lockups started.

I had this problem too. It may or may not be the problem you are having but if anyone has this problem, it is worth posting. My problem happened at a specfic time. I watch a program then go into any menu with the preview of the program still visible. I had specific arrow keys on my remote set to do slow motion. When I started to use the arrow keys to navigate around, it would lock up. Then I removed the slow motion from any keys on my remote. It went away.

Come to think of it, it is happening now when I am playing a DVD. It did not think to turn it off there too. I guess I will have to try that. Real annoying too because I either have to remote in and kill SageTV UI (not the service) or Ctrl-Alt-Del for task manager. Because of FSE I can't see it but I know that Alt-U, then L logs off.

I did some tweaking last night, and I'm just waiting for another crash so I can check the logs.

The tweaks I tried last night:

Updated the NForce driver (I found that I did not have the latest one)

Switched power settings to "Always On" (I've read that "Always On" also improves CPU usage)

Disabled some services (Wireless, Automatic Updates)

Fingers crossed that something will have resolved the problem. It did not crash last night.

Sorry, forgot to mention I also took the plunge and updated to the beta drivers for the HVR-1600.

I had the same behavior for about a month or 2 prior to my C: Drive failure.

I haven"t fully gotten the setup working again - but that's a different thread.

I opened a ticket with support and they said to

"Increase the memory size for SageTV. You can do that with this reg setting:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Frey Technologies\SageTV\JVMMaxHeapSizeMB

If it's '0' that's the default, which is 192MB. Try something like 200 hex
and see if that helps."

To keep peace in my house I reverted back to version 6.2.10 which works great so I haven't tried their solution.

Are there ways to pass other Java VM parameters?

i.e. Garbage collection logging <= this would be the biggest aid in determining the appropriate memory settings.

I've had that particular tweak in place for quite a while and still have frequent COD.

Just thought I'd update this. Sage has been running great for me for a week or more. I'm a happy camper again. I even have OTA HDTV which looks gorgeous.

I really suspect that for me, the issue was the HVR-1600 drivers. Updating to the beta driver seemed to make a big difference. For one thing - when I used to scan for OTA channels, it used to hang. Now it seems ok.

Just a thought - do you have anti-virus installed on this pc. The AV software could be scanning your disk or a schedule scan has started. Also try excuding mpg, wmv, avi's etc.. files from the on access scanner.
