network path from share, through server to extender???

So, I have some high bit-rate HD movies. Some are still jerky on playback.

I'm looking into network issues that I may have, but also noticed that if the movie is on a file server with a \\ path not a mapped drive letter, when I play that movie back I pick up network utilization on the file server and on the sage server.

Seems like data is streaming from the file server through the sage server and out to the extender.

I thought that point of \\ paths is that the extender can pull data straight from the file server and not have to route it through the sage server??

thanks

SageTVClient can read files directly from a network share. As far as I know the extenders cannot, but must stream from the server in all cases.

Do you have a firewall or antivirus program that is interfering?

SageTVClient can play a file w/o streaming through the server if it can access the file directly, but direct access for remote clients (extender or Placeshifter) is the server because they run as part of the server application.
