Internet Radio via Extender

Currently running Sage 6.3 with an MVP on a SD TV and love it. One problem is streaming internet radio stations, how can I play internet radio station through the MVP extender? Is the MVP the limitation or is it a problem with the Sage extenders as well? What are my options.

I don't know about MVPs, but I am fairly certain that the HD Extender, at this point, can not play streaming internet radio. This is an item that gets brought up in nearly every "wishlist" thread.

If I am wrong, someone correct me, and then for the love of God please post detailed instructions on how to do it!!

Here's another vote for this. Slacker or Pandora support would be great...

Go buy a squeezebox and let your TV rest while you listen to music.

Thanks but the Squeezebox is $100 more than the HD100 and all it can do is music without a nice tv display. I would like Internet Radio but not that badly...

Pandora

I have to say I'm very impressed with Pandora.. I like the 'like' 'dislike' options too.. to sort of 'tune' it. I think this product would be a PERFECT fit for something like SageTV!!! I see there are some opensource projects that successfully connect to and retrieve not only the audio streams but also the album covers and info and all that would make such a feature a knockout punch to SageTV! Here is link to an opensource player I use on my desktop.. I'm not a programmer, but perhaps something in that code could be used to create a plugin for the Extenders???

Sure would be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yahoo! Music (formerly Launch.com) has been doing that for years - you rate songs, artists, or albums on a 5-star scale, and it plays them (and "similar") according to your ratings.

Personally, I would love for Sage Extenders to be able to play any streaming internet radio... even just plain old "VH1 Radio" or whatever.

I'm almost to the point of selling the old Onkyo and buying a new receiver thats Network Ready for Internet Radio. Looks like Sage won't get there anytime soon.

I sure think Sage not getting this to work would be a missed opportunity!

I personally think the missed opportunity is not having Netflix WatchNow on the extender without the need of server similar to Roku player. Imagine having the extender be able to play the Netflix movies, then use it as a Trojan horse to get Sage box into households and then once they discover the brand and like the functionality sell the SageTV software/hardware.

Of course I would take any of these. To make SageTV perferct in the sense of having complete feature set for my needs, it would need to add
1. Netflix
2. Internet Radio
3. Support for subtitles (this allows me to watch foreign movies)
3. Support for multiple audio tracks in mp4 movies (this allows me to watch foreign movies and/or directors's comments)

After this it would be for me just usability fixes to make the default STV more usable since now it is pretty hairy.

Takes a village..

I agree with all those 'wish list' items.. but am aware that by Sage wanting to integrate them doesn't necessarily make it possible to do so.. obviously Netflix would need to want to work with Sage to integrate their stuff with them and that goes with some of the other wishes too.. Internet Radio would seem to be the easiest to me, as there are already open source players and such, but then I'm not a programmer and have no idea what that would involve... but I'd certainly think those things would be BIG selling points!!!

I got a reply from support this weekend that the subtitles are on their todo list they just haven't made it high enough. So I think 2,3,4 are just a matter of time until they get to it. As far as 1 I believe it comes to business decision fro the SageTV side, I just believe this might be one of the greatest opportunities they have to make them a household name.

Let me remind everyone this is a user support forum. If you want to make your suggestions known by Frey make a support request. Otherwise they'll probably never know.

Netradio........

Sent an email to SageTV support strongly suggesting that "netradio" be playable on the extenders ie: MVP & HD-1000.

Response:

Rick,

Thank you for the suggestion. I will pass this along for you.

Thanks,

George Oms

I also sent in a request the other day asking about the status of online radio feed support. Got the same answer (more or less).

I do really hope we can get streaming mms feed support soon. If I could stream sirius to each of my three extenders, that would be awesome...

I also wish SageTV had this capability. This is one thing I miss that GBPVR could do on the Media MVP.

I pulled the trigger on a used Yamaha Network Ready receiver. This is my answer until sage supports internet radio.
