Corrupt Wiz.bin

Every time I start up my computer my Wiz.bin file gets corrupted. If I delete Wiz.bin and Wiz.bak, run stopsage, run startsage, and then rerun the setup of the client everything works fine. Except of course my favorites and scheduled recordings are lost.

Here is my sagetv.txt file

Code:

Looks like some kind of Java error.

I am a Linux newbie and I am not sure what to do.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

You should try stopping the sagetv server then reentering your activation key using keygen.sh.

Thanks for the quick response.

As suggested I stopped the sage server, deleted my Wiz files, ran the registration key script, and restarted the server.

I got the same error after I restarted my computer.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks again.

Are you using the debian packages? Also could you verify your java version with java -version?

I came across this about a month ago using 6.3.8 or 6.3.9...
The reason for my problem turned out to be a metadata issue with one of my imported videos. I was using IMDB search with RW Metadata stvi's to save metadata files for my imported videos and it turned out that one of the files was over 32KB which the database was unable to handle. Updating to 6.3.10 fix the problem for me.

I am using Ubuntu 8.04.

When I ran java - version I got
java version "1.6.0"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0-b09)
OpenJDK Server VM (build 1.6.0-b09, mixed mode)
I installed the latest version I am still having the same problem.

Do I create my install directories incorrectly? I really don't understand permissions and all that stuff.

Thanks for the help. I'm not giving up yet.

Do you run as root? or some other user?
And what version of Sage are you using?
Did you install the debian packages for Sage or Manual install?

I have run the sage client both as root, using sudo, and the logged in user.

I downloaded the lastest version the other day, which is 6.3.10.1.

I did a manual install. After downloading the tarballs, I extracted the server tarball to /opt/sagetv/server and the client tarball to /opt/sagetv/client.

I did the extractions using sudo.

The crazy part is that I was previously using Ubuntu 7.10 and did have any problems. When I did that install I didn't know anything about Linux and it worked just fine. I thought I learned alittle over the last couple of months, but not enough to solve this problem.

I really appreciate the help.

They only difference in our setups is that I used the deb... you can try download the sage server deb and then rename you current sage install....

Code:
# sudo mv /opt/sagetv /opt/sagetv.manual
# sudo apt-get install sagetv-server.deb
(have your lic key ready, it will ask for it)
# sudo /etc/init.d/sagetv restart
Do you get the error on a fresh sagetv install / restart? If not, does it show up immediately after you have configured your lineup? Maybe this is a sage bug related to your lineup?

Same issue here. Running SageTV 6.3.10, openSuSE 10.2, Sun JRE 1.5.0_10.

I shutdown to add an additional tuner, when I restarted, no recorded programs, no scheduled recordings, no favorites.

Naturally, my wife is pissed because we had just added a bunch of programs for the fall lineup and, of course, some of her programs recorded tonight that are on disk, but not registering at all in SageTV.

I would really love to be able to restore the favorites and recorded programs, but I can't even restore a Wiz.bin from backup.

I just observed this behavior today.

I was logged in to my CentOS server as regular user. I rearranged whole bunch of files. Then I run sudo bash, went to sage directory, stopped sage, modified Sage.properties and set force_full_content_reindex=true and started sage.
Corrupted Wiz.bin
Stopped sage, restored old backup of Wiz.bin, started sage, Corrupted Wiz.bin
This happened every time I tried.
Then I logged out of the server, logged in this time as root and went to sage directory, stopped sage, modified Sage.properties and set force_full_content_reindex=true, restored olf backup of Wiz.bin and started sage. Worked perfectly.

Any idea why starting under "sudo bash" terminal let to Win.biz corruption while running as root didn't. Sage was originally installed as root user as it is described in the CentOS FAQ in here.

It is possible that when using a trick like this the SageTV server doesn't have access to all needed dependencies if the environment variables are different for that user compared to a standard root user.

Is there a way how to verify it? I was assuming that when I do sudo bash I am basically running as a root.

You are, but the environment might differ. Compare the output of printenv when executed from "sudo printenv" as compared to "sudo su -" followed by "printenv" One variable which might matter is the PATH. From a RHEL4 box:

$ echo $PATH
/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin
$ sudo echo $PATH
/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin

$ sudo su -
[root@foo ~]# echo $PATH
/usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/root/bin
[root@foo ~]#

Thanks a lot, I will definitely try it this weekend. I am still surprised that even if something is wrong like this, Sage corrupts its file.

So there is definitely difference between sudo bash and sudo su -. The path is slightly different, but nothing obvious related to Sage or Java which would explain why sage corrupts the Win.biz

Code:
[basta@storage ~]$ echo $PATH
/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/home/basta/bin

[basta@storage ~]$ sudo echo $PATH
Password:
/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/home/basta/bin

[basta@storage ~]$ sudo bash
[root@storage ~]# echo $PATH
/usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/home/basta/bin
[root@storage ~]# exit
exit

[basta@storage ~]$ sudo su -
[root@storage ~]# echo $PATH
/usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin

[root@storage ~]#
[root@storage ~]# exit
logout
