/sbin is missing from your PATH. I think that SageTV may ifconfig (usually in /sbin) to obtain the MAC address of the machine for licensing purposes. If it cannot find ifconfig, I guess it does what it always does when it cannot verify the license key, and just corrupts the Wiz.bin. Try adding /sbin (and /usr/sbin) to your PATH and then see if you can start SageTV with sudo.

It would be REALLY handy if licensing issues printed a meaningful message on the console rather than just silently corrupting the database.

Me too

I get the same errors.

I am using the tar install.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help figure this out.

Meanwhile, waiting for a fix.

John.

I fixed the same errors by downgrading Java6 to Java5

I fixed the same errors by downgrading Java6 to Java5. I explained it in detail in another post. Basically, do a stopsage, delete /opt/sagetv and everything in it, use synaptic package manager to remove all packages that show a java6 when searching for java6, then use synaptic to install the same packages with java5 by doing a search for java5. After that install sagetv with the tarball (because the sagetv .deb package wants to reinstall java6), and reinitalize sagetv starting with keygen.sh, and finishing by doing all the configs within the placeshifter itself.

This worked for me.

Confusing the issue is that sagetv calls java5 java 1.5. I don't know why but there must be a good reason.

John.

Just a word of warning, if you have a motherboard with 2 ethernet ports on it, make sure they load in the same order at each reboot.
