Sage Client 6.4.3 - Will not play video from HD-PVR

Good evening,

So, I've determined it's something about SageTV or my config on my laptop that is not allowing me to play video captured from the HD-PVR.

- I am able to watch Live TV and recorded TV from the HD-PVR through my HD100 extender flawlessly.

- I can playback the recorded .TS files through Windows Media Player (assume it's using the PowerDVD 7.3 codec, but not sure how to check?)

Below are my settings on the client machine:

Video Renderer - Overlay
MEG2 Decoder - SageTV
SageTV MPEG V.D. uses DXVA - Yes
MPEG4 playback - DirectShow (also tried Sagetv player)
Dscaler - never have changed anything here
Audio renderer - default
MPEG2 Audio - SageTV
3D Acceleration - Enabled
Use FSE - Yes

Also - does anyone have video from the HD-PVR streaming correctly to a PC (even the server itself)? I haven't seen anyone state that they have seen this working. Everything I have seen shows it works great with the HD100, but everyone seems to get this same 1-3 seconds of video and then a freeze when viewing though a PC (as do ). Sometimes I get a spinning Sage wheel saying there was an error in playback. I can't replicate that one right now. I'll grab the error next time.

I will likely open an issue with Sage Support, but wanted to see if anyone else is able to get around this.

I have my clientPC working with coreAVC, but its choppy and not ideal.

I can play that same file (from the HD-PVR) back in Arcsoft Total Media Extreme on the same clientPC though and it's perfect - just like on the HD100 extender. So I'm thinking I need to change this entry:
Quote:
videoframe/h264_video_decoder_filter=CoreAVC Video Decoder
I added to get it to use CoreAVC and switch to Total Media Extreme. Don't know how to do that, so I need some advice. Also not sure if there are other settings in SageTV that would help.

Brent,
You would need to set it to:
videoframe/h264_video_decoder_filter=ArcSoft Video Decoder

George Oms (Sage support guy) mentioned that his client played back fine in this post:

I'm sure the issue is either client configuration, H.264 decoder, or a bug.... I have only tried PowerDVD 7.3. Does anyone have websites for the CoreAVC and the other one that is suggested as well? Do they deal with hardware decoding, or are they software-only based? I intend to eventually get this running on a different PC which is single core, *if* I can, but am working with the dual-core laptop first since it's more in-spec.

CoreAVC

I think both

Using CoreAVC I can get my dual-core clientPC to view the HD-PVR outputted files, but it's a bit choppy. I've played around with the settings in CoreAVC but nothing makes it perfect. This was all with a CPU usage of 35-60%.

I'm going to try Arcsoft TMC for the h.264 playback within SageTV tonight. Hopefully that will do the trick as I can view those HD-PVR files just fine within TMC on the same PC.

According to their web site CoreAVC Pro will eventually have GPU acceleration but does not currently have it.

CoreAVC™ for Windows @ 1080p video at 24-30 frames per second
2.8 GHz Pentium 4 or faster processor
At least 1GB of RAM
256MB or greater video card
Windows 98, 2000 or XP
Interesting... so why does Hauppauge say you need dual-core?

Well I don't know if I can help any except to say I've got my client (not PS) playing back the "HD"-recordings from the HD-PVR fine with an underclocked athlon 3200 (socket 939) and a 8600GT - so there is hope. Here's the post link for the whole story http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...4&postcount=10 (saves some typing). What Video Card is in your client?

Here's my client 'video/audio' settings for comparison:
Video Renderer - Overlay (VMR9 does not work for me)
MPEG2 VDF - SageTV MPEG Vid.
DXVA (hardware acceleration) - YES
MPEG4 Playback - SageTV Player
DScaler - never touched
Audio Renderer - Default(?)
MPEG2 Audio Decoder Filter - ArcSoft Audio Decoder HD
3D Acceleration - Enabled
FSExclusive Mode - NO

I manually downloaded Matroska Splitter and installed it. I had seen several graphs floating around with that Haali splitter in it. Since the install, Sage plays with the Arcsoft codec beautifully. It used to be pretty darn choppy.
