Audio & Video not in sync w/HD PVR and HD100

I have noticed that the audio is not in sync with the video when I watch recordings from the HD PVR on the HD100 (using the Beta firmware). It seems to be off the most right after I skip ahead. Pausing for a moment seems to help, but it still is off a little bit. If I watch them directly in SageTV using the ArcSoft decoder everything is spot-on. Anyone else having this issue?

Through SP/DIF in the livingroom - Yes. Through SD TV speakers in bedroom - Not really. Most (99%) of the time it is in sync. I've only noticed it once on the SD TV speakers and I had a bad signal at the time that I've been attributing it to. But I agree the ArcSoft is spot-on for me too.

I had issues with AETVHD - Intervention. My wife was not so happy. Looked to be about 2 seconds? Using component and composite audio out on the extender.

I've had a few out of sync issues as well on SD material over digital out. Not much but noticeable. Latest STX-100 beta

I have seen the same issue too.

Has anyone also seen what looks like frame dropping (i.e. slight stuttering)?

Yes. I get this immediately after a channel change. After 10 seconds or so, it appears fine, but it's really bad for those 10 sec. And that's way too long for a channel change and the WAF.

HD PVR and HD100

I have the PVR and 3 of the HD100 boxes, each with different audio connections. When I get a recording from the HD PVR (about 50% of the time I get a 0 byte ts file) I have all sorts of assorted problems. The audio out of sync issue was really bad last night on two recordings being played on an HDMI->HDMI connection. This morning I tried to tune several shows live over the HD PVR and none of them would play for more then 3-5 seconds before hanging playback. I could stop them and tune something else so it didn't hang the HD100. Once or twice it would play with the audio running and the video hung. I also have an HDHR, MCE500 and HVR1600 that are all working fairly well with 6.4.4. I don't use the digital tuner on the HVR1600 yet as the QAM detection isn't working, but I had trouble setting that up in 6.3 as well. My HDHR has hung a couple of times which is unusual, but can't confirm that it's related to 6.4.4.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Chris

I'm having the same issue on my SageTV Client. Believe it or not, yes, you'll never believe this, but it's true...VMR9 plays BETTER than Overlay. Overlay is completely unwatchable, but VMR9 skips a frame about every 2-3 seconds. The audio never stutters and remains in sync the entire time. Very strange, eh?

I'm using the ArcSoft video and audio decoders for h.264. They're the only ones that would play without inducing an error, stuttering worse, or running the CPU usage up to 99-100%. My video card is ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, 512MB DDR3, PCI Express.

I feel like we're all really close to getting this HD-PVR thing to work right on our systems...what do we need to do to close the gap on this stuttering/skipping/frame dropping issue???

Dave

Did anyone file a bug report on this? As far as I can see its not related to any specific audio output

I seem to have found a conflict between the ArcSoft audio decoders and AC3Filter. I unregistered all the ArcSoft decoders and specified the Mainconcept AAC decoder in the properties file to decode the HD-PVR h.264 ts files. All my music and video files will now play without the audio getting screwed up.

While trying to debug this, I found that if I disable the SPDIF output of AC3Filter, the frame dropping decreases significantly, though it still happens every now and then. Could it be that little bit of CPU usage taking the stereo signal and re-encoding it into an AC3 signal that is interrupting the video?

BTW, I only have about 15-20% CPU usage with the ArcSoft video decoder.

Still haven't figured out why VMR9 works better than Overlay. Seems bass-ackwards to me.

Why would that be "bass-ackwards"? VMR9 should work better than overlay on a newer video card that has good support for DXVA. Particularly if it has acceleration for H.264. BTW, what OS are you running?

You're right--I'm the one who's *thinking* backwards! ;-)

I'm running XP Home on my clients and Pro on my server.

I am also having the audio sync problem with the HD PVR and HD100. Has anyone found a resolution yet?

Thanks,
Shaun

I submitted a bug report on this, and got a reply that they're looking for example recordings that exhibit this problem. Of course now that I've reported it, my issue has gone away for some reason. But if you've got a recording that consistently has audio/video sync problems, file a bug report and they'll send you the link to upload your recording.

I'm running Beta version 6.4.5 and firmware version "20080710 0" and I see the same thing. With a show encoded at 1080i the video is slightly ahead of the audio. I can't tell with shows encoded at 720p or 480p because of the "video skip" that happens every few seconds. I'll report this to support and see if they need more samples (I have plenty of samples).

Sync Problems

I also see this. This thread has gone dead for a while, anybody heard anything new? Does Sage still need samples?
