6.4.5 doesn't install: error 1904 DLL registration error

I was running 6.4.4 perfectly, saw the new beta, downloaded it and installed as usual.

During the install I get the following error message:

error 1904
module c:\program files\SageTV\common\psisdecd.dll
failed to register
HRESULT -2147352567

Anyone else get this error?

My choices are Abort, Retry or Ignore

Retry just gives the same message no matter how many time you click it. If I ignore the error, Sage works perfectly except it won't record off my Hauppauge 1600 digital tuner with ATSC input.

I'm running WinXP SP2 on a really clean server, no anti-virus software.

Do you have the psisdecd.dll file in the common directory? I believe that is a new file and is possible it was left out of the build. I have not yet installed the new build but I do have that file because support gave me one to install before the beta. I will have to check and see if a different version is installed when I upgrade. That file was intended to fix an issue with PVR500s when coming out of sleep on a Vista system. It is possible that it may have broken something related to the 1600, you should contact support.

I reverted back to 6.4.4 so I could record ATSC and all is fine.

I do have the file psisdecd.dll existing 10 times on my hard drive, the newest copy is indeed in my SageTV\Common directory. It is 234KB and dated 3/2/2006 9:47AM

The copy in my Windows\System32 directory and other places is 355KB and dated 3/25/2005

When I installed 6.4.4 back I didn't get the error message and my recording is all OK again.

Is there a new copy of this file I should get from somewhere and try with 6.4.5?

I just installed the beta on my server with no problems.

I did see the same error you saw when I installed the client software on my notebook which is the Windows MCE edition. I will notify support tomorrow.

Before the installation my version of PsiDecd.dll was 3/2/06 11:14 now it is 3/2/06 9:47 AM.

I found this old post with the same error, no replies:

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21863

I changed nothing on my server, I've been running sage on it for years. Windows update just did a malicious software patch but that is about it.

A new installer has been posted that fixes the issue. You can download it now.

(this only affects the SageTV & SageTVClient installs on Windows) Be sure to remove 6.4.5 before using the new installer if you had already run the prior 6.4.5 installer.

I downloaded 6.4.5 again, and it does indeed install just fine for me.

Thanks for the fix.

BTW: I would recommend running the old v6.4.5 installer to uninstall SageTV before downloading the new installer, or else uninstall via Control Panel's Add or Remote Programs to uninstall. Running the new installer on top of the previous v6.4.5 install seems to leave both installs listed in Windows.

Yes, I agree - I went to the control panel after reading Narflex's note and before I re-installed 6.4.5

Sure enough, there were 2 SageTV's there. I removed the 6.4.5 one, left the 6.4.4. one, then installed the new version of 6.4.5. All worked perfectly.

I don't know what would have happened if I installed "good" 6.4.5 on top of "bad" 6.4.5. but I don't want to find out!
