Laggy Skipping

I have an Athlon based system using an nVidia graphics card, an ATI 650 capture card and a Hauppauge capture card (I forget the Hauppauge model #, but it's a recent high resolution one that handles both STV and DTV).

For the last few months I've noticed that Sage is laggy on skipping. I'll press a skip button (big or small, forward or back), and the video playback will freeze while the audio will jump to the appropriate point (as near as I can tell). Eventually the video unfreezes, stutters a bit (almost as if it's winding up), and then settles into smooth/normal operation.

Obviously this isn't a critical issue -- I've been living with it for months -- but it is annoying and I'd love to fix it.

The only thing I can recall doing around the time I first noticed this problem was swapping out one of my two ATI capture cards in favor of the new Hauppauge card (i.e., I used to have two ATI 650 cards, now I have one plus a Hauppauage card).

Has anyone else noticed anything similar and solved it? Or have any thoughts on tweaks I could try?
