Black menus on Placeshifter & HD media extender

I'm seeing the issue where the SageMC background on my HD media extender and placeshifter are all black. I know that others have hit this problem and I've read several posts on it and I've tried every suggestion I can find but it is still busted for me. I have:

- uninstalled all versions of Java and only re-installed the latest version
- uninstalled SageTV on my server and re-installed the 6.4.4. beta
- upgraded my HD media extender to the latest firmware
- upgraded placeshifter to the 6.4.4 beta
- shutdown the SageTV service and installed the full version of SageMC

Any ideas on what else to try?

I'm still scratching my head on this one. If I launch sage on my server SageMC looks fine but when I connect via placeshifter or HD extender I get white letters on a black background. I'm running java 1.6 update #7. I've enabled debugs on my server but I don't see anything in the logfile to indicate what's wrong with SageMC.

Thoughts? Comments? Ideas? help

Post your debug log. Right now I don't have any good ideas.

Aloha,
Mike

Here are log files for starting the SageTV service, connecting with placeshifter in the first log and media extender in the second log, and then shutting down the SageTV service.

Placeshifter connect log

Media Extender connect log

I'll need to see the SageTV Debug log. Follow the instructions here to enable logging and post the log file in this thread (just zip it first).

Aloha,
Mike

sagetv_1.txt is the log for when I connected with placeshifter, sagetv_0.txt is the log for when I connected with the media extender.

Thanks

I don't see where it is finding the background image. Try editing the extender's [MAC ADDRESS].properties file (in the ...SageTV\Clients folder) and set the following property:

sagemc/theme/currently_active=Default

Save the file and fire up your extender. This will switch you back to the default theme. Does the background show up?

Here is a screen capture of Placeshifter when logging in with

sagemc/theme/currently_active=Default

set in the appropriate .properties file.

What are the dates for your sagemc.jar and df_sageutils.jar files? Mine are 3/4/2008 and 2/22/2008, respectively.

Well....sorry. I'm at a bit of a loss. Maybe someone smarter than me could jump in. I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

Aloha,
Mike

oh well, thanks for taking a look anyway I'm going to try reproducing this on my laptop by installing sage there and copying over the sage.properties and wiz.bin files from my main sage machine. If I can get this to break on my laptop I can troubleshoot it without fear of really breaking something.

Found it!! My sage.properties file has the following line:

sagemc/background_image=SageMCE\\Images\\background.png

and that is what is causing the problem. I have no idea how when or how this line got in there.

Ugh. I forgot about that setting. Good find.

Mike
