Reading Metadata

What's the best way to obtain metadata for a recorded tv file? I'd like to extend an application so that it can do some metadata based automation.

There are a few STVi's in the Downloads section here on the forums that will automatically save text files with the metadata in them.

There's the API Spec and the Show and Airing APIs.

If you want to read it from another app. nielm's webserver is probably the best option.

The SageRecordings XML file generator is quite simple to set up and once installed it will write out an XML version of the metadata for each new show within a few minutes (configurable) of the recording starting. See this thread:

of course if you don't want to parse XML another way might be preferable.

Thanks everyone. Got it working using both the webserver and the SageRecording Xml generator (for those who like options).
