Mac Placeshifter Suggestions (or maybe I'm just stupid)

I'm a relatively new SageTV user and after spending about 2 years with MythTV I'm a very very happy convert. (My wireless drivers never did work with Myth and I spent way too much time on a command line). I'm running Sage on a HTPC under Windows XP, but I use the Placeshifter on my Macbook. It's a great product, but I find myself a little frustrated with the placeshifter. Since I don't have a remote on the macbook I have to remember the keyboard shortcuts and I have a hard time navigating the menus. I'm using the Control key a lot where it would make more sense to use the Command key. For example, CTRL-F to move forward 30 seconds.. I still haven't figured out the skip 2 minutes keyboard combo. I just turn on auto commercial skip and hope for the best. I'd also really like a "stay on top" option like most video players (such as VLC) have.

In general, I'd like to humbly suggest a more "mouse driven" application that doesn't rely so much on keyboard commands.

Thanks!

On Windows, mouse input works fine with the default STV... are you using the default interface or SageMC?

During playback, a mouse click on the screen will cause the OSD to appear w/icons for playback control. Right click brings up the options menu. Does this not work on a Mac?

Commands & default keys are listed at the end of chapter 5 of the PDF manual, but they are Windows keystrokes... not sure how much they differ on a Mac. But, you should be able to reassign keys in Detailed Setup -> Commands.

So remember when my subject line said "or maybe I'm just stupid"? I think that's the case for at least part of my problem. I'm using SageMC and clicking the screen during playback does bring up the OSD but I didn't realize I could click on that to change position in the stream or pause/play. Awesome, one complaint solved

Now my only feature request is the ability to keep the Placeshifter window "on top"

Hey there,

There used to be an always on top option in the xp client. There are some quick instructions on how to access it in xp here. I'm not sure if this works on a mac (or placeshifter for that matter). Under Vista my client is now being forced to run in a different window mode to make the pretty glass appear which seems to stop the option from being available .

On another note, If you're using SageMC with a mouse then you have to check out Mike's excellent Touchscreen Controls for SageMC and Toolbar For SageMC.

Mick.
