What's the current state of IMDB info files? .my/xml/.properties??

I think I'm about ready to tackle getting IMDB info into Sage for the several hundred mpeg4 movies I have in my import directories. Searching the board I have to admit that I'm very confused as to what format I should be working with. I'm seeing references to doing this with <filename>.my/.properties/.xml files as well as single monolithic data files generated from DVDProfiler.

It's not clear what the current "State of the Art" is. Ideally, I'd have an individual data file for each .avi entry. I see this as being more portable and less prone to catastrophic loss. I'm also already used to making a <filename>.jpg when I add new movies. I'd like to be in the habit of also making some sort of imdb data file at the same time.

I'm a SageMC user. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

It works really well and will create properties files for you.
