HDHR Running CPU at 100%

I just setup my HDHR with Sage using an antenna. It will tune and get video and everything, but it runs the CPU at 100%, stutters and can barely run the Sage UI. This is a 2.4 P4 WinXP with 2GB RAM, using the Basic recorded TV setting in SageTV 6.3.10.

I know the system can handle HD from the HDHR, because I have been using it with no problems on a MCE machine with similar specs. Is there anything I need to change in the record settings to make this work?

There are TWO subsystems with SageTV. Recording and Playback.

When using the HDHR, it received pre-encoded data streams and SageTV stores those direct to disk. Very little CPU involvement is required. There are no recording 'quality' adjustments possible.

Playback is the process of retrieving the data stream from disk and sending it to a decoder and rendering it to the screen. The decoding and rendering requires a lot of processing power. If you have an adequate Graphics Card a codec can hand-off the decoding and rendering task to a dedicated graphics processor and free up resources on the main CPU.

Can you give us a little more information about your system:
- What's your OS (XP, Vista, Linux, Mac...)
WinXP
- CPU type and speed
2.4 P4
- Total Memory
2GB RAM
- Graphics Card Type/Model (on-board or added, maker)
- Recording disk location, size, format (C:, X: Partition formatted 64K blocks, etc)
- SageTV version
v6.3.10
- SageTV MPEG2 decoder
- SageTV Renderer
- Display device (Computer monitor, TV, HDTV, etc)
