Problems w/ Placeshifter audio & seeking?

Using Placeshifter on my LAN works fine but whenever I use it over the internet I have a terrible time with the audio. 9 times out of 10 the audio is just a huge burst of super-loud static. If I pause, or skip forward/back a number of times it will eventually lock on and work fine. Of course, the next time I try to skip past commercials it's back to static.

I remember having the same behavior (on completely different computers obviously) seeking mp3s in winamp about 10 years ago but of course have no real memory of the fix. It seems like the exact same problem though. Something about the size of the buffers? I don't remember.

Anyone else seeing this?

does your server have enough power to transcode on the fly? just a guess... i'm not an expert

Yes, the server's fine. It's only a single cpu, but it's 3.0Ghz with 2 gigs of ram. CPU floats between 50-75% when placeshifting (and I guess depending on whatever else it's doing at the time) but I've never seen it go higher than that. It's actually transcoding even on the LAN because my laptop's on wireless and it was stuttering if I didn't let the server transcode. I've also got no problems transcoding through the webserver & VLC - even over the internet I get as good or better picture quality as placeshifter and no audio problems. There doesn't seem to be a way to seek (or comskip) when streaming that way though, so I would much rather get placeshifter to work properly.
