Watching a scheduled recording while it is being recorded

Everyone,

Is it possible to watch a show that is a scheduled recording while it is being recorded? If I watch the channel before the scheduled recording begins and leave it on the channel during the recording, this is possible. However, if I switch channels or turn on the TV half way through the recording, there is no way for me to watch the program until the recording has completed. Tuning to the channel results in an error message, and trying to watch it from the "Recorded" list results in the same error message.

Note I am using the HVR-2250, and Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

Thanks.

Error message aside, yes you should be able to watch a recording that is in-progress.

I forgot to mention: except for mpeg1 formats from an analog tuner.

I think it should start from the beginning if you pick it from the Sage recordings menu instead of the guide.

It should always start from the beginning regardless of the menu where the recording is selected, unless you choose to watch live TV... but there is an issue seeking in some video streams that are still recording. The beta demux (in the beta forum) should help with that, but I'm not sure if it covers all cases.

Sorry for the delay.

The error message is as follows

There was an error playing "show name"
ERROR(-10): There is no MediaPlayer that can playback the selected file while its being recorded

Is this something I should send to Sage tech support?

Thanks.

Probably not.

Is this from the analog tuner? If so, what recording format are you using? As I said above, mpeg1 formats can't be played while they are recording.

If it is a digital tuner, go to the detailed info menu for the recording, scroll down and see what the format is.

It does. And this is what I do because trying to play from the beginning of the show after selecting it from the guide is a little flaky.

These are digital recordings (ATSC) - I only have two analog stations and I have not recorded anything on either of them yet.

Missed one of you comments - I'll check tonight what the format is but I assume it is MPEG2. When recording a ATSC station, all it should be doing is tuning the station and saving the file - no translations necessary.

Is it possible the default quality of the recording would change this? For an ATSC channel, does the quality have any impact at all? (I would hope it doesnt)

No, the quality setting doesn't affect the recording from a digital tuner. It would still be good to know what format SageTV sees the file as. Maybe there is an issue with the format for certain shows or with the decoder being used for playback.

This problem has been solved - it turns out to be a bug in the TSplitter.ax file (the one necessary for the HVR-2250 tuner). I received an update from Sage support and everything appears to work perfectly now.

The latest version is 2.0.10.14 of this file.

I will also post this info to the HVR-2250 thread in Hardware Support.
