Wired MVP to Wireless...
Hey all,
I know several people here are running a wired mediaMVP on a wireless network. Could someone kindly explain to me how you set this up. Specifically, what networking hardwars is needed to pull this off. Thanks in advance, Rob Hix |

I''m doing this in a couple of ways:
I have a MediaMVP connected to a wireless bridge (Netgear; if you're going to do this, be sure to get at least Draft-N bridges). Setup is pretty easy; plug one bridge into your router or switch, and plug the MediaMvp into the other one. Turn them on. http://www.netgear.com/Products/APsW.../WNHDE111.aspx I am also using a set of NIM-100's on my second MediaMVP, which aren't wireless per se; they run ethernet over coax. I don't know where you can get them from retail, but here's a link to the auction I won at eBay (just to give you a description). Again, pretty plug-and-play; you do have to have clean cable runs in order for these to work well, but the reach is far greater than Wireless N. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=200255443277 You can also do this with a variety of wireless-G routers which support bridging (like Belkin or Linksys), but I wouldn't recommend it. I got it to work, but everytime I talked on the cordless phone or popped popcorn in the microwave, the picture would freeze, and eventually drop. HTH, Stu |

Quote:
Hauppauge MVP, 3 ft. ethernet cable to Buffalo WiFi bridge (bought before Airlink101 came out with their $20 one). Bridge has 11g connection to my home W-Lan with encryption. Same w-router that I use for laptops. THe bridge is up high, hidden, and gets a great signal strength so I am assured of a 54Mbps air link rate (22Mbps net) link. OK for standard def TV. Don't have HD. another/better way is to use a pair of these, one as above and the other as an Access point, wired to the LAN via ethernet. Put this wireless on a different channel (1, 6 or 11) and SSID other than your home LAN. And encryption. Needed only if your home W-LAN is very busy with other traffic. That's all, folks.
