SP/DIF & HDPVR

I am using the red/white cables for audio from my directv box to the hdpvr and want to switch to the digital audio. I searched around for instructions on what needs to be done, but all are vague.
Do I just remove the analog cables and connect the optical line? Is there something I need to change in Sage or anywhere else? Thanks, Bill

Stop sage service if you have it in service mode.
Run SageTV and remove HD PVR sources.
Set Sage so it does not run at startup.
Exit sage.
Download new 1.1 Haup drivers.
Extract to folder on C drive.
Go to device manager and uninstall HD PVR(s).
Shut down sytem and unplug power cable from back of HD PVR(s).
While system is shut down check your STBs and make sure they are set to output DD thru the Optical port.
Start system and let it get to desktop.
Plug power into first HD PVR.
Windows XP will probably install the old driver (did on mine).
Go into device manager and do update driver.
Do the driver install from a specific location.
Install from hdpvr_v1.1\hdpvr_v1.1 folder.
Check driver version in device manager after install and make sure it shows 1.0.5.1.
Exit device manager and plug power into second HD PVR.
Driver should load automatically for second HD PVR.
Check device manager for second HD PVR to be sure the 1.0.5.1 driver is loaded.
Exit device manager.
Start sage.
Set up new source(s) as component + spdif.

I followed these steps and am now enjoying 5.1 sound.

There may be some shortcuts (probably didn't have to do the device uninstall) but this worked for me. I didn't want to run hcwclear because I have other Haup tuners in my system.

That worked! That should be posted in one of the FAQ's.
