Save option on Stop menu

I feel like I'm a little dense, however, I don't understand what the new Save option on the Stop menu is doing. It must be something nice (and I might want to start using this feature), but I don't understand what it is doing.

My first guess was it would save whatever you just watched in LiveTV because the release notes said "Added: ‘Save’ button to popup Stop Dialog for LiveTV". This appears to work. However, I noticed the Save button also appears on any Recorded TV show. Maybe this is happening just because it's a common stop menu that is used on both LiveTV and RecordedTV. However, when I press save on a RecordedTV show it remembers that I did this because the Save option doesn't show up any longer. However, I can't figure out what it did.

Wow, it's pretty embarrassing that I have to post for help because I can't figure out a feature. Sorry to be so dense...however, any enlightenment would be appreciated.
