crash after wakeup on Vista 32bit

I have 6.5.5 installed, and also have SageMC 6.3.8a installed. This is on a clean installation of Vista SP1 32 bit.

When waking up after a standby, the service crashes with an event log error of "The SageTV service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s)."

I have the following in a hs_pid_err file in the sagetv directory.

This also happens if I run as just the application, not as a service.

Any ideas? I do not know if this happened on previous versions, as I have only just started trying to sleep the machine. The machine was running 24x7 previously.

Machine is a Dell Dimension 4600 - Intel P4 2.8GHz, with 2x Hauppage T-500 dual tuner cards.

cheers!

I also get this. I reported it in 6.5.5 and still get it in 6.5.6.

I have 2 dvb-t cards and a dvb-s card. It only happens when the machine has been asleep for more than 3 hrs on mine; shorter sleeps wake up fine. It appears that after a prolonged sleep the card does not respond as quickly as the SageTV service, but this is just a guess really.

While it is been fixed you can work around it by making sure the sageTv service is set to recover if it fails. This means after the machine wakes and the service fails it restarts and eveything is fine. The minimum time vista will wait for before trying a restart is 1 minute, but you can also work around this by running a small bat script instead of just recovering - if you are not sure how to do this just ask and I will put in the details - it basically involves editing the properties of the sageTV service via the vista services control panel.

Matt

I'm experiencing the same problem on my PC after installing Windows7 beta. It’s really annoying.
Would really appreciate any help to eliminate this nuisance.

I not trying to be mean in any way but Windows 7 is after all is a beta OS so your on your own with it or disable sleep mode and than will not have thoses problem.

Me included, and like you it's always after Vista (x64 here) has been asleep for a long while.

It's worse in my case because the service doesn't actually fail, it just locks up (it still shows as Started in the services.msc list but it doesn't respond). So I have to manually cycle it to get it working again.

I have logging enabled but the file cuts short at the point the service locks up, so there is no useful diagnostic information there. I do get an hs_err_pid file each time though, usually similar to the one you posted. I only logged it with Sage support a couple of days ago so I haven't heard from them yet.

Incidentally, I've tried using 1GB of java heap and I've never seen anywhere near that amount used so I doubt it's related to that.

I wish now I'd reported this problem when I first started seeing it instead of just continuing to hope that the next beta would fix it. This is poor behaviour by a beta tester, mea culpa.

Tried to disable screen saver in setup menu but looks like Sage still goes into sleep mode and crashed again. Submitted bug report to Sage but while they are working on the remedy would ask Matt to publish the workaround he was talking about a couple posts above. Thanks in advance.

On the windows start menu, in the box a thte bottom with the text "start searc" type "services" and hit enter. Thid will bring up the services screen.

Find the sageTV service and right-click properties.

In the "recovery" tab select "Run a program"

Use the attached bat file and in the Program: section at the bottom of the recovery tab browse to it (you eill need to remove the .txt) This file will simply wait about 8 seconds before restarting the program - i nicked this off another post on this forum i think but regardless it is very simple what it does. The pinging allows for a rudimentary timer.

Note that if you are happy with the service taking a minute to revcover instead of selecting "run a program" select restart the service" and you dont need the script then.
