Can't get metadata to import..

Guys,

I've been using Sage with SageMC for about 3 months. Nice stuff.

When I first started importing my video collection, I was able to create xxx.properties files to get the metadata imported.

I've recently added a few new storage locations, and have moved several collections there, including the corresponding xxx.properties files for metadata.

For the life of me, I can't get the metadata to import.

Here's what I did:

1. Created a video directory ( \\storage_a\media )

2. Imported a bunch of stuff, along with their xxx.properties files. At this point, the metadata (title, description, air date, etc.) appears in SageMC.

3. At a later date, removed \\storage_a\meda from the video dirs and did a rescan.

4. Moved my media files and xxx.properties files to \\storage)_b\media

5. Added \\storage_b\media to Sage and did a rescan.

The media files all appear, but *without* the metadata.

Filenames are : <item name>.mpg / <item name>.properties

Any suggestions are welcomed

so maybe you did this, but I often have to delete and then re-select an import directory for sage to catch all the properties files. Make sure everthing is there that you want. Then delete the import directory. Add it again, giving sage a few minutes, and see what happens.

You might ensure that logging is enabled. You can look in the sage log and see if it caught the properties files.

Matt

edit: looks like you did do this. I guess check the log and see what's there.

Allright. Here are the details:

Problem: Can't get the metadata (in .properties files) to import.

Video Directory (this is the share name I entered into 'Manage Video Directories')
---
\\yakko\media

Example of the files in that share
---
\\yakko\media\parents shows\voyager\season 1\1-1-1 Caretaker.mpg
\\yakko\media\parents shows\voyager\season 1\1-1-1 Caretaker.properties
(also tried xxx.mpg.properties)

** resolved **

Guys,

In my infinite wisdom, I had left my text editor in Unicode mode... which created my .properties files in a format that Sage can't read.

Correcting to standard DOS format solved the problem.

That was a frustrating experiment. I really wish Sage would log an error of some kind when the metadata file is present but unusable..
