Rumor - SiliconDust working on HD-PVR competitor?
A thread on TGB contained the following snippet:

I'm VERY interested in this. You're speaking of this thread correct?
I don't think they are working on anything that would "mimic" what the HD-PVR is doing, but possibly from a different angle? Here's why I say that. This is a quote from a SiliconDust employee from last year: Quote:

So far it's a rumor. Called the Draco project, it is supposedly DishNetwork's PC tuner project
I'm hearing rumblings about it but so far it hasn't been substantiated enough for me to post more than what EngadgetHD already did. |

Hmmm, that's really interesting. From the link, though, it looks like this product would be pretty closely tied to WMC. It reminds me a bit of the OCUR-cable card thing (whatever happened to that, anyway?).
It would be very cool if this solution were compatible with Sage, but somehow I'm thinking that the chances are slim, and the R5000 is still going to be the only way to get non-reencoded premium HD to sage. But here's hoping I'm wrong! |

I can think of one way. Perhaps they're going to integrate something similar to the HD Fury so that if SOC (selectable output control) comes to pass their product will still work without any additional hardware.

I was about to post a reply here about Draco, but you beat me to it, Brent!
I did not know that Silicondust was involved, though If they are providing some of the integration technology to this, then it's certainly going to be something worth looking at. They broke inpenetratable ground with the HDHR when they brought clearQAM to XP MCE and have continued to innovate and refine their stuff. Let's hope that MS keeps their paws out of it and lets those 2 nimble companies do their thing.
