PC Locking Up playing MPEG-2

I am still having problems playing MPEG-2 and it's getting me frustrated to the point that I want to not ever try again, and that's not going to help me, so I'm hoping that there is something that I have set up wrong or something that I can tweak.

I can play videos and music with no problems, and let them run for hours without issue. When I try to play a tv stream (either live or recorded), I will see about 10 minutes and then the screen goes bright green and then black (the PC freezes up at this point and I have to hold the power button to shut it off).

I then restart and everything is back to normal. Videos play, but MPEG2 doesn't play for more than 10 minutes before it starts all over again. I can set Sage to record a show, and if I try to play it in MPEG2 it will freeze after about 10 minutes. If I compress the show to avi, it plays perfectly and without issue.

I have tried the various decoders including the ATI AVIVO one (I have an ATI X1600 vid card) and none work. The DEFAULT and CSS ones that are listed don't seem to crash the system, but the video quality is not good. The ATI decoder has better video quality, but keeps crashing the system.

I have a Hauppauge PVR-150 capture card, which I believe has hardware encoding, as well as 2GB of RAM on an AMD Sempron processor... should be lots of horsepower.

Anyone have any suggestions?
I am attaching my debug log if anyone can make any sense of it for me.
The time stamps are pretty much dead on to when the "last boot" started, and the last time stamp is when it stopped responding.

Thanks!!!
Gregg

Hi Gregg,

I would switch to the default STV and verify that you still have the problem. If so, then you should post your question in the main forum where more people would see it and hopefully be able to help (or submit a support ticket with SageTV). I haven't dealt with codec problems in a long time since switching to extenders, so I probably won't be much help.

Aloha,
Mike
