DVD file/folder structure?

I do not include a video_ts directory in any of my rips. SageTV seems to only recognize DVDs that haven't had the menu removed. I just ripped two versions of M:I:III, one with menus and one without. Neither with a VIDEO_TS folder and SageTV only recoginizes the rip that was not re-authored. Does anyone know what SageTV is scanning for to see if a set of files is a DVD? because it is not a Video_ts folder, .bup file or .ifo file.

If you did include a VIDEO_TS folder Sage would recognize it with or without a menu. Initially the VIDEO_TS folder WAS required but at some point Sage made it possible to play a DVD rip without the VIDEO_TS folder. I find it easier and have zero problems if I include the VIDEO_TS folder as most ripping apps put it there by deault and most other players would rather see it in that format.

That info is in Appendix I of the SageTV PDF manual, found in your SageTV install directory, or in SageTV when running on Windows in the Setup -> Help menu.

How are you making your movie-only rips? From what I've noticed in the past, it seems like a folder with a VIDEO_TS folder inside, <moviename>\VIDEO_TS, is recoginized as a DVD by itself. If you're not using the VIDEO_TS folder, then it must be more rigorous about what it looks for, (which appears to be a copy of what Andy put in the manual ).

You can't just pull the main movie VTS out of the DVD and drop it in a folder, you need to use something like DVD Shrink to reauthor the DVD if you want a movie-only DVD.

I am using CloneDVD2. To save on storage space, I remove unwanted audio streams and menus. I don't do any compressing and re-encoding so it doesn't take any longer to rip. You set your stream preferences, so it only adds a few seconds to the time it takes to initiate the rip. Well worth it because you save a couple GB in many cases. CloneDVD has a box you check if you want to keep a Video_TS directory. I never had the need to maintain the folder structure with XBMC, so I kept it unchecked. I only keep the menus on movies with bonus features that interest me. In general, I would rather save the time it takes to navigate the menus and wait for the warning screens.
