Hauppauge Media MVP problem with Divx/Xvid Playback

Hello All,

I am trying to use a Hauppauge Media MVP with my SageTV Server.
The playback of TV Recorded show is ok or LiveTV is very good the image is great. But when I try to play a Divx or Xvid movie, a big black bar appear in the bottom of the image (see the attached picture).
I tried to change a lot of parameters in the sagetv.properties file and in the mvp propertie too, but nothing works for me.

I am using SageTV 6.3.8 with SageMC.
My computer is an Core2Duo E5400
2 Gb Ram - 1.1 TB HDD
Geforce 9600GT.

Somebody has any idea how to solve this issue ?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Sérgio

Your server has to transcode Divx for the MVP. Make sure Divx is installed on the SageTV server and make sure the processor is powerful enough to transcode it. (P4 3GHz or better)

As I remember, Sage does not handle the aspect ratio correctly when transcoding DivX to the MVP. It's hit-or-miss depending on how the DivX video was encoded.

I don't think codecs are required for transcoding to the mvp. I do not have any installed on mine and divx/xvid playback works perfectly.

Dear Wheemer,
Thanks for your answer.

One question, Are you using SageMC ?
Yesterday I did a test here, installing everything again, with SageTV w/o the SageMC the Divx works fine w/o any codec as you told , but when I put the SageMC interface the same problem happen again .

I installed the SageTV 6.5.8 and SageMC 6.3.8a.

Regards

Sérgio

Yes in fact I am using SageMC on my MVP... I've never seen the problem in your screenshot though.

MVP properties file

Dear Wheemer,
Thanks again for your post.

I figured out that in my mvp .properties file, the miniclient/transcode_mode is configured as miniclient/transcode_mode=SVCD, when this is with this configuration I see the divx/xvid movie in the screen in the way as the picture that I attached in this post (small image with a big black bar).

I tried to change this parameter to DVD, DVD6Ch but when I do it no image appear in the screen.

So I am sure that something is not correct with the transcode process from divx to mp2.

Is that possible you send or check in your sagetv.properties and your mvp .properties file the follwoing parameters?

sagetv.properties:
media_server/transcode_quality/DVD;
media_server/transcode_quality/SVCD;
media_server/transcode_quality/AVI16x9

mvp .properties
miniclient/transcode_mode

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Sérgio

This setting is controlled within the UI. Mine is set to high quality, which corresponds to the DVD setting.

But I can use the lower quality and it still views fine...

Problem solved

After some research and tests finally I can solve my problem.
It was related with the aspect ratio and transcoding process.

I solve this problem creating the following transcoding line in the sage.properties file:

HTML Code:
media_server/transcode_quality/DVDS=-f dvd -b 4000 -aspect 4\:3 -padtop 30 -padbottom 60 -g 3 -bf 0 -acodec mp2 -ab 128 -ar 48000 -ac 2 -s 640x360 -r 25
And this setting was assinged in my mvp properties file in the clients directory:

HTML Code:
miniclient/transcode_mode=DVDS
