The DTS issue

I've had problems with DTS files in mkv containers, so I'm now using PopCorn mkv Audioconverter to add an ac3 stream. It's free and works like a charm.

I'm not using the home cinema version, but when I go to filters it has the same ones as graphedit.

What decoder is getting used in graphedit, and what decoder do you have selected in the audio section of detailed setup?

The defaults are pdvd 8 .h265, haali splitter, ac3filter, default audio renderer. With these settings the files with dts tracks work great. MPC uses the same ones unless I change the merit in dshow manager. The mpc codecs work as well, but not in sage. Sage uses the same graph as far as I can tell, but the video either doesn't play or plays without sound. The .ts files play with no sound and the .m2ts files don't play at all. I was told that since sage doesn't "support" .m2ts files it uses whatever graphedit uses. I have vc-1 working using .m2ts when those files don't work .ts, I had hoped the dts files would work the same way, but they don't.

My decoder is set to default, but in sage properties I set DTS, AC3 audio to use ac3filter by default. I will change the setting in sage to ac3 filter, but in the past that gave me odd problems. I will report when I get results.

Did you run the AC3 config program in the SageTV directory and enable DTS for SPDIF passthru? It is not enabled by default.

Yes, that is what I've been using since I started using sagetv.

I need to ask a favor. Do any of you have a video clip with either a dts track or (preferably) a DTS-MA track that you could upload for me? Preferably in the .m2ts or .ts format. I can't upload anything right now as my internet is too slow. Thanks.

Ok, I have re-encided all of my files to ac3 sound and (as pointed out to me earlier in this thread) they saound the same as the dts tracks. I did keep the lossless sound tracks for when I get a new avr and when a soundcard comes out that will let me transport the audio to it, but that is a whole other topic. Hopefully this issue can be fixed in the future.

ac3config.exe is right in the installed SageTV directory. Run it and go to the SPDIF tab. Check the DTS box to enable it and also make sure you have enabled SPDIF.

Typical location is c:\program files\sagetv\sagetv

It's in the sage TV folder inside the Sage TV folder

It( ac3config.exe) is not in that file either. Maybe its not in whs version? I have no DTS sound on any type of file(mkv or dvd or blueray). Im using hdmi output on my HD200. HD200 is plugged into tv directly then pass thru to reciever. My reciever has DTS.
If anybody knows how to fix this issue? Ive been searching and reading on this forum for how to achieve DTS sound with my HD200 using a server with sage 6.6.2 whs version. I have been using vsoconvertx to dvd for mkvs to get sound(1 hour). Cant get sound with blue ray. I have used clown BD program...again way to long(hour or more). I want passthru which I assume means the sound passes thru? Ill take any sound.

If you're using HDMI output on your HD200 I believe you'll need to connect the HDMI to a receiver first that decodes DTS and then to your TV. Or use the SPDIF on the HD200 to connect to your receiver that decodes DTS. The HD200 doesn't use any software decoders because it is done in hardware.

Does this mean that there is no hope for the HD200 to support DTS Audio in BD rips? No chance for a firmware update to fix it?

I am getting ready to switch over to BD rips and want to make sure everything works. I only use the HD200 to serve up media and I does not connect to an AVR. If there is no chance for a firmware fix, I will just have to remux with AC3 and wait for the HD300.

I have been looking at soundbars as a bandaid to this, some of them decode DTS as a feature via optical/coaxial SPDIF input and can be had for around $200. Not terribly cheap but better than a whole receiver/speaker setup just for the bedroom....

There's always hope, the hardware is more than capable of doing the work. I think the problem is "interest". Not to say there aren't people who could use it, but I'd bet 99% of the people who end up playing DTS are using passthrough/bitstreaming to an AVR.

Your best hope for getting it updated is sending a request to support (they don't track the forums for such things).

I think part of the issue (remembered from my pre sage extender days when I was looking at popcorn hours etc.) is that decoding dts would require a license which has per unit cost associated with it. While passing through dts which they do now has no cost.

So, my guess is they wouldn't add dts decoding to current units. Not that they can't but the book keeping might be sticky, so think they won't.

I'm in the same boat as Jimmi24. I use all extenders.

I just tried my first BD (G-Force). I thought it would be as simple as rip with DVDFab & have mediashrink make me a nice little mkv. This has worked great with DVD's but it did not work with this.

This movie only has DTS-MA. I can play the ripped movie in sage but no audio.

So the question is how do I get audio? I thought I could make a single MKV file and then run sageaudioconvert to get an ac3 track but I can't figure out how to make a single mkv file. Mediashrink makes a mkv for each file on the disk.
