USB-UIRT with the hauppauge IR emiter?

Hello,

I am planning to buy the USB-UIRT to switch my cable box channels, as the Hauppauge one is very bad.

I would like to know if I can use the Hauppauge IR emiter with the USB-UIRT.

Thank you in advance,

Philippe

That is exactly what I did. The plug sizes are different. I took two Hauppauge IR emiters and connected them a stereo jack that fits the USB-UIRT. It controls two 4250HD (Scientific Atlanta) cable boxes.

Check out the diagram on this page:

What sort of problems are you having? I actually bought a USB-UIRT when I first started using a STB to tune standard-definition channels, but it's still sitting in the box. While I was waiting for it to arrive I hooked up the Hauppauge emitter that came with my HVR-1600 and it's worked perfectly ever since. In ~6 months it's never missed a single channel change.

I think the USB-UIRT is a set up in a lot of ways, but I wonder if it's going to fix your problems. Maybe there's something wrong with the hauppauge emitter. Do you have the emitter right over the STB's IR receiver? Do you have it shielded (I use black electrical tape)?

I did much the same. I also stripped off the covers from the emitters and fed them inside the case of my STBs so that they sit close to the receivers. They been working a treat for 3 or 4 years.

Hello,

Well, it works fine at the beginning, but I do not know why, it stop working after a couple of hours. I have to restart the computer to make this thing working again.

Regards,

Philippe

Ahhh, OK. I don't know why you're having problems, but the Hauppauge IR blaster setup isn't really that great. I bet you'll have better luck with USB-UIRT.
